Starting after the first of the year I'm heading up an entire group that has 98 employees, and i'll have about 15 direct reports that those other 83 report to.

And I've already approached a couple of guys about joining my team to be my number 2, so I can get them trained up for me to take Director in a few years.
I wish my situation was back to something like that, I cant do anything without stepping a couple rungs up to keep my pay the same, or take a drastic cut to wait in line forever for to move up.

Something would have to drastically change for me to go anywhere in this company. Commissioned sales sucks on that aspect, especially if you are good at it.

sometimes you have to be willing to take that change on to get to the better place in the long run, or move on to somewhere else where you can.

I've had to tell several friends to take the management positions even though the pay sounded like less. In the long run you'll make more, especially if you have a team of guys like you making as much as you are.

Well, I contemplated doing it the last three times they have offered, but I would still be stuck there, assuming I wanted to stay with this company. I dont know about you, but my finances wont tolerate a 50% pay cut.

I was in the same boat. Team lead, top producer, subject matter expert for our team regarding any of our digital products. I got passed for management promotion 2 times for scrubs from a different department. I finally wised up and bit the bullet, moving into an outside sales role in a completely different department. Granted, it took a similar conversation to what we're discussing (a good honest manager telling me that "you do twice the work and co-handle/assist twice the accounts as two new hires, they're not going to take you off that team) before I decided to do something.

That is such a bad way of managing. I mean, he basically said you weren't replaceable and he can't move you...ever.

Of course a driven person will leave.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Are you a sandwich artist at Subway (post-Jared) or a barista at Starbucks? Good job, man...

He quit his job at Subway, and just gambles on football games with his last paycheck.

I'll throw out my two cents..

Keep your head down, don't worry about what the other guy is doing and do your job. He doesn't want to train you? Fuck it. Doesn't want to show up to work on time? Fuck it.

You will be seen as the dependable, hard working person and he will (eventually) single himself out as the lazy fuckup. Play the long game, not the short.

There's a good living to be made at sports wagering, assuming you know all the facts about the teams/players and have access to insider information like qik46 has. After all, look at how well he does in football.
