  • California hotel recs

We are headed to LA next month for Anaheim SX. What's a good hotel in the LA area to stay? Anything in particular to see or do while there?
We plan on leaving LA on Sun morning and driving the coast up to SF and staying 2 nights there. Recommend a nice hotel in the SF area? Will be just me and my wife.

    Thanks.

Are you dead set on LA? I ask because you will have many better options (IMO) closer to Anaheim (or Orange).

IMO, the closer to the beach, the better.

I haven't stayed in many hotels in that area, just because we typically stay with family, but Lea and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach one visit, and loved it.

And taking the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) up to SF is a beautiful drive if you have the time.

We went to SF back in January, but instead of staying at a hotel we got a VRBO.. That was, IMO, a preferable experience to staying in a hotel. Only being 2 nights may make that a little more difficult as many have 3 night minimums, but since it will be Sun and Mon night, you might find someone willing to take that.

View from the living room window in our VRBO in SF:

We enjoyed the Ayres Hotel last time we went to Anaheim.

I've only been to LA once, but I stayed in Ventura. It was freaking beautiful out there.

That's like 100 miles from Anaheim (where the event is).

I was just in Anaheim for Blizzcon and stayed in the Annabelle Hotel which is next door to the Convention Center. The rooms were decent but the scenery was pretty nice. Also across the street from Disney Downtown. But no kids that probably isn't a huge deal.

LA is really far from Anaheim, I would stay near Anaheim unless you want a 45 minute train ride or hour drive. The scenary is beautiful in LA, but driving through it is good enough, unless you want to go hiking. Santa Monica Pier is awesome and so is Venice beach where all the street performers are. All the beaches are nice and have interesting scenery, going up and down highway 1.

what are you interested in will matter most as to what to see.

If you like Korean BBQ, there is a shitload of amazing places to eat, I liked soo wan galbi in the Korean district.

I think LA is about 40 miles from Anaheim. If you are Ok with that drive I also stayed in the Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach which is about the same distance as LA.. That place was amazing!

Beverly Hilton. Trader Vic's is right inside the hotel. you can get hammered on those fruity ass drink then cartwheel all the way done the long ass hallway! minutes from the tar pits, and the (from what I have read all new redone) Petersen Museum which is 100% a cant miss for car guys.

                              god bless.
