  • Fostering a dog

So the woman and I have 2 pups. She had a Weimaraner from before we met who is very high energy. So after awhile we got a rescue pup who was set to be euthanized that day if no one adopted her. Shes a petite pit bull and just wanted to be loved. Great addition to the family.

About 2 months ago I fucked up and "liked" the Weim rescue or North Texas group on Facebook. Earlier this month we got our first foster dog. She was in a shelter where the owners were contacted and they didn't want to pay the fee to get her out. Fuck people. She's a phenomenal dog that just wants to be around people and relax. Most chill Weim I've ever seen.

Anyway we have had her 3 weeks now,she got spayed and is ready for adoption. We may have her leaving us next weekend and I'm going to miss this pooch.

Pics from getting her home on her "freedom ride from the shelter"

Just wanted to share some pics of this pup as she has been amazing. If you are going to get a dog, I highly recommend a rescue. Our Pittie is awesome and really appreciates a warm home and not being in a cage just like this girl does. Best/most loyal dogs I personally think you can get.

Never knew you could foster dog. Maybe that could be a key to control our rowdy dogs.

What would the proper term be?
Temporary dog until it gets adopted/new owners?
Dog I got from the pound that was about to die?

              Good on ya, Man.
              All of ours are rescues.
We foster quite a bit too.

I will say that our entire zoo has got to be the most well rounded bunch of animals I've ever seen. They're very socialized from all of the fostering and we always have a lot of proven social tests for new owners when we're fostering.

              1 spastic Son
              2 Great Danes
              1 Italian Greyhound
              1 Sphynx
              3 Oriental Shorthairs

I get what Dennys saying as i get too attached to pets to foster. Thats why my house is a dog farm. Those are some good looking dogs but those cats have a sinister look to them lol

Fostering can be tough. We just got done fostering a mini dachschund. We pulled her from the local shelter. She was literally a bag of bones when we went to get her. Heart work positive and needed spayed. We had her for about 6 weeks. We fostered her for central texas dachschund rescue. Got her treated for heart worms, put 7 pounds on her, doubling her weight when we got her, and she was spayed 2 weeks ago. We just got back from Waco and meeting her new family.

Had she gotten along with our other dogs, we could have easily kept her. Having her in our home for 6 weeks, becoming part of our family, it can make it hard to let them go!

                            ^^^^Exactly that.
It is tough sometimes. I've gotten really attached to an Akita, a few dobies and some Dane/Pyrenees mix pups.
However, they all came from deplorable conditions. We were there last chance to a good life and became their only advocates. WE were the final say as to where they went.
We knew exactly how they looked at life. Kids, cats, dogs, food aggressions, property patrol...
We made sure there were no surprises for their new home.

Awesome! Pets are great, couldn't imagine being without them.

Got our Dobie from the local doberman rescue and would gladly do it again.

Wish we could foster but i'm afraid we would never let them leave.
