Just ordered the PSA 15V subwoofer.

Now I just need some surrounds. Looking into Axiom QS8.... but open to suggestions!

Cool. Post up your impressions of the PSA when you get the time.

In terms of surrounds, there are many good brands to choose from. Those Axioms are definitely nice, but you really don't need to break the bank on surrounds. I've heard inexpensive Monoprice in-wall surrounds that sound very good with the right crossover point. I have Polk RTi series. Just shop around.

Those Axiom Quadpolar speakers will take a lot of amp power to fully utilize them.

Well I couldn't help myself and bought a pair of the Axioms last night.

Easy setup, and it sounds spectacular with just the Audyssey setup without me making any adjustments. I've got it sitting behind the listening position against the rear wall. 3 room corners all have an open arch next to them, the 4th isn't a corner at all as it opens up into the kitchen.

Anyway I'll be getting an SP meter tomorrow and a tone disc if I can find one. I've got the gain on about 2.5 right now and I've been listening to all manner of deep bass stuff on YouTube and it's definitely a cool new world.

Oh and my new AV unit arrives tomorrow so I've got a ton of playing around to do still.

It's funny the kind of music you find yourself listening to to experiment with your new system.

I'd never even heard of Chillstep before but there's a ton of high quality stuff on YouTube with extremely deep bass that is really pretty cool.

Yeah man I just YouTubed "Deep Bass" and there is a ton of stuff. It's coming in to my system in multichannel PCM so my AV can decode it, most of it gets recognized in THX and played accordingly.

Bassotronics - Bass I Love You

Select 1080P in the settings, it defaults to 360P.

                  Enjoy

This was so bassless through my little PC sub, that out of curiosity I put that on my HT setup in the living room, and now realize how lacking my 12" Polk is. It was a phenomenal upgrade over the TV speaker, but apparently not all that great with the lowest of lows.

Yeah man I have been experimenting with my new sub listening to my music collection as well as key scenes from various movies I'm familiar with and it's a whole new world. The depth charge scenes from U-571 with the new 15 inch PSA literally pressurize the room.
The sub doesn't feel like it's reaching or straining, or really even working hard.

                            Yeah.

'Bass I Love You' is not your typical bass song. Most bass specific jams you find on youtube are centered around loud (bordering on clipping)30Hz-40Hz bass. 'Bass I Love You' has infrasonic content for the most part with transients right around 17Hz. If you have a truly capable sub that has 100+db output at those frequencies, the sensation is almost uncomfortable. Some folks in the audiophile community like to describe it as "being underwater". This is the song that the guys with the Rotary and Infinite Baffle subs like to demo. As it will make people want get up and leave the room.

Most people will listen to that song and think it's pretty weak because it's not mixed to hit in the mid bass octaves, like in typical bass demo songs.

I haven't fully calibrated my sub with a meter yet. I still need to play around with room size and delay aettings but this 15V must be very forgiving because it sounds pretty Damn good with just the audyssey setup.

Audyssey/AccuEQ will set the delay for all speakers during the full calibration routine. You shouldn't have to do a whole lot in that regard, unless you just want to verify what your measurements are against the Audyssey settings in the menu. One thing I would double check is where Audyssey set your crossover for each speaker. It sometimes has a problem with that where my mains are concerned. Make sure it is above the -3dB point rated for the speaker. And, of course, the higher the crossover allows for more amp headroom. I find that everything blends the best with all speakers set at THX (80Hz), even though I have full range speakers.

The Radio Shack Digital SPL meter I recommended to you is the best in terms of cost vs. performance. However, If you need something just to get started I have an old Scosche meter that you can have. It's just not as accurate in the lower frequencies as the Radio Shack. And when you level calibrate using the Onkyo's pink noise test tone, you want to set the meter for C "weighting" and "slow" speed.
