Searching for my old car: VIN lookup?

Pretty sure I can go to the court house and have this looked up, but is there a good online solution that's easy and cheap/free?

I've spent the last year thinking about the cheap fun I could have in a mustang again and I am over this leaf daily driver. Thought it would be fun to try and find the 05 GT I ordered from Skip and Reid back in the day. If it's still on the road and in decent shape, I'd like to try and buy it from the current owner.

I had a 2001 GT that I bought new and checked up on several years via the "MyFord" website after I traded it in 2003. It had met a similar fate...engine had been replaced once and later it was reported a total loss. Obviously the subsequent owner(s) didn't baby it like I did.

They're findable, and run about $18k with around 50k miles. There's one for sale locally with higher miles for around $15k right now. Not bad for (IMO) one of the best looking factory mustangs ever.

What is the price difference between GT's and Bullitts?

It gets pretty fuzzy. You can find ragged out 05-09 GT's for $10K all day long, but you rarely run across a ragged out Bullitt. Pretty nice GT's go for $12-15K with some, but not a ton of miles (50-90K). So I'd say you're looking at around $3K more for a Bullitt. The next few years are probably going to be the time to get them as I imagine they'll hold their value well as long as they're not crazy-high milage or beat up. That said, 01 Bullitts seem pretty cheap.

Edit: to put a finer point on that, I've seen an 08-09 Bullitt asking $15K with 95k-ish miles, and more than a few with 50-60K miles asking $17-18K.

I suppose it depends on how you value such a thing. Beautiful (arguable, but I love them) limited production special car vs. run-of-the-mill but faster regular GT.

I'd personally want to save a grand or two and get the Bullitt, but maybe that's just me.
