People want a reasonable experience...not a 45 minute wait in a waiting room, followed by a 5 minute nurse talk and then another 30 minute wait for a 5 minute dr chat.
I think in house dr visits for minor issues are the real scam...youre just mad because your income will finally drop to its true value. Drs are not worth $200 for a visit to tell me whats already apparent. And if its a real issue...youre just going to send me to a specialist anyways.
Make the patient experience half as shitty as it is and i may consider it. But either i dont go to the dr at all...or i go to a convenient source.
You should try a VA doc. 45 minutes wait? Oh man, if it was only 45 minutes. I sat in the waiting room for 6 hours my second visit and they kept losing my appointment while I was standing there. And that's 6 hours before you get your blood pressure taken, not until you see a doctor.
Edit: I forgot to add this. I was in bed for 4 days with a migraine. I couldn't get up, hurt to breathe, etc. Worst I've ever had and I get bad ones 2-3 times a week. This one I couldn't sleep off or treat with pain killers and caffine. I called my PCM and they made me an appointment. January 14, 2016. I kept the appointment just for a checkup but seriously. I can't get out of bed for the better part of a week and emailed and had the wife to call to beg for an appointment. January.
Rarely do i have less than a 20 minute waiting room trip and about 10-15 worth of waiting at the actual patient room even with an appointment. This is with maybe 10-15 minutes of contact time. So what 25% efficiency?
Also, when was thenlast time you could get a same day appointment at a family doc?
Change your dr. Or let them know you are above everybody else
Change your dr. Or let them know you are above everybody else
Or use dr on Demand? Kinda like I already suggested?
And nobody said anything about being above others...this is about not scheduling overlap so much that ive got to spend 2-3x as long there as is truly necessary.
Every doc is different. I always have same day sick appointments available, only way you don't get seen same day is if I'm out of town or on vacation--even then I have a call partner that will, I cover him the same way. My patients have my and my nurse's cell #'s and can access me by secure email. I only see 10-15 patients per day, the average waiting room time is less than 10 minutes and we usually run on time, unfortunately emergencies do arise and we do occasionally run late, never over 30 minutes. I also make nursing home visits and house calls for those too sick to come in. My standard office visits are half an hour and every patient gets a comprehensive annual exam with advanced cardiac risk labs, pulmonary testing, EKG, screening lower extremity doppler test for early peripheral arterial disease, anxiety and depression screenings, thorough dietary assessment and counseling, etc...
In what alternative universe does this kind of service and care exist? It's called concierge medicine. After 24 yrs of packed waiting rooms, seeing 30-40+ pts per day, chronically running 1-2 hours behind and working 12-14 hrs per day--I changed over about a year ago. I actually love practicing medicine again and the patients that signed up love it too...
I know I'll get flamed for all this so do your worst.

Id be in for that type of care...its just rare or ive not been made aware of it. Is it stupid expensive or standard rates?
I do take Medicare, Tricare, all insurances and cash-pay (non-insured patients). Medicaid will not allow it. Cost is IMHO very reasonable. Averages out to be the same monthly cost as dinner my for my family of 5 at Outback... There are many FP and IM docs in the Metromess doing the same thing.

Welcome aboard. You won't get flamed by me, I love the idea of concierge medicine and think it is one of the small positives to come out of this Obamacare turd we got handed. I think the people who are most against it are the human livestock who want all their "FREE SHIT!".

What's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?

You cant really compare the doc in a box to a family practice. Last time I went to the actual doc's office, I walked in, signed in, walked back and got weighed, sat in a room for a few mins and the doc walked in. I was in and out of there with shots and a script in hand in less than an hour, and I want to say it was about half an hour.
Yep. In the past 15 years or so, both in TX and CO, I don't recall ever waiting more than 5-10 minutes at my family doc's office, and often walk straight back after signing in. Never had a hard time getting a same-day appointment if I was sick. Never had to wait long for the doc to come into the room. Somebody has just been going to the wrong doc.
I wouldn't trust the online or over the phone docs, personally.
I've not once in my life walked in and gone straight back. Not with m PCP, Dentist, ER, nada. Im always there 60-90 minutes, with about 3 minutes of that time being actual face time. I couldn't tell you the last time I even saw my actual doctor. If I'm at the Doctor something is seriously wrong, but the above scenario has been the case my whole life, with every medical related appointment I've had.
