And cost me about $3000 in damages and stolen property.
Iv had this friend for 16 years. He went to jail in Feb and no one would talk to him. Even his own mom refused to deal with him. Se we start talking on the phone and eventually I feel bad for him and feel like hes changed from the guy I knew. He didn't have a home to go to so I let him bond out to my home(for those of you that remember I settled with Wells Fargo and my mortgage is back to normal). I didn't ask him for a cent and paid for his clothes, his phone, his food, and let him live with me for 3 months rent free. While he was living with me we had an opportunity to start doing trash haul off for a home builder. The agreement was he did the labor and I paid for everything. I worked out a deal with one of my customers to trade mechanic labor for their skid steer($3000/month or 30 hrs labor). I let him use my f250, paid for the skid steer, paid for the insurance, fuel, grapple, laser level, and everything else. Every worked great from July until Sept. He started turning in less and less invoices and then jack knifed my truck into the trailer so bad that it destroyed the bed and took me 15hrs or metal work to fix the trailer. In the mean time we decided that in order to turn in more invoices we would get trash containers put out on the property so he didn't have to run to the landfill. That was 7 weeks ago and he turned in even less invoices. I couldn't figure out what was going on but the invoices were going down and debt was going up. I figured out that in the last 6 weeks he's costed me $9000 and only invoiced $6000. So I started investigating it and I found out that he's been using my truck to drive around and mow lawns as well as any other work he can find. He was renting my truck to his buddy during the day while he was on the skid steer. Of course he was turning in all of his fuel receipts as an expenses and Iv been paying for all of it. He also decided that he would start invoicing the builder directly with his own company name and pick up checks. So Iv been paying for the truck, skid steer, fuel, insurance, dump fee's, trash containers, and skid steer rental. So all he ended up with was doing labor and making %100 profit.
So we were supposed to be partners in this deal and the payment was supposed to be 50/50 profit split after the expenses were paid. Since I was paying for his other "business" expenses we have lost money for the last 3 checks. Since there's no profit there's hasn't been any money. He asked me about his pay last week and I told him that we were still in the red and Id show him the report if he wanted. About 10 mins later he texted me "just pay me $500, and pay for the trailer parts(more stuff he broke) and we'll call it even". I asked him if he'd lost his mind and said no so he blew up and quit. Since then he tried to steal my grapple and offer to sell it back to me for $500, and stole my laser level and wont give it back. I did get my truck back because I had extra keys and when I picked up the skid steer I found where he tried to hide the grapple in the housing development and went and got it. Apparently he's made enough money to go get payments on a truck and rent his own skid steer and is now out doing the work at the home builder.
So the morale of the story is don't trust your friends in business. Get everything in writing and if someone isn't putting in the same amount of money/time as you you're not partners.
