what does beard oil or balm do?

Keeps it somewhat manageable. But it is like chapstick in the sense that it becomes required. If I don't use it, my beard starts looking like a ghetto-struggle-afro.

Most people's beards are naturally scraggly. Balms and oils give the hair a little bit of weight and it helps straighten them out so they'll stay where you put them. That and they make it smell nice. Personally I usually keep mine trimmed with a #4 guard, just short enough where it stays manageable.

It is almost a requirement when your beard is 6+ inches long. For awhile, I was nearing a foot, but had to look somewhat respectable for my clerkship.

Oh cool, I was wondering why some peoples beards continue to look good as the get really long and mine always just started looking ratty. I got laid off a couple months ago so I shaved it all off to have an interview face, but it looks like I may be getting hired back by December so I will grow it back and try using it.

I've had my beard for 18 months. I started using oil about 6 months ago. It makes an enormous difference.

14 months for meI, i have been using Billy Jealousy. The link i post will be the brand i try next. Stache is also long so,i need to have a style or it will look like alot of high kicks. Thought Tremor would go for the tabaco smelling one , might smell like black n milds.

I was scragle as fuck for a year. Oil makes quite a difference.

What do you wash with? I'll go back and forth between soap and shampoo - not beard specific, just whatever is in the shower. Keeps my face from drying out.
