    Seat Repair

I have had it done several times. They call it "Inserting". Used car dealers do it all the time. You need a real upholstery guy to do it. Most production shops just want to change the whole cover. I'm thinking about inserting the seats on my 2003 Lightning to get rid of the fake suede that wears terribly.

Blake did you have to lower your seat pan to get new seats in there? I am running seats from a 93 Saturn (black/grey pleather) and want to put in some 99-04 GT Grey leather seats I got for a steal, but everywhere I read, I have to cut out the seat pan and reinforce the floor.

Is it necessary to reinforce the floor? I maybe make 260 hp, not exactly a hot rod.

        "Inserting" lol

Anyway since you're thinking about doing it, do you already have a guy/shop in mind that you're going to have do the work? I have a couple vehicles I need some inserting done on. Damit I hate the way that sounds

For the current racing seats, I did not. I did some rough measuring, and I don't think I'll have any clearance issues with these either, but I'm not using the stock brackets. I'll adapt the generic sliders that came with the eBay seats. They're really low profile. I've heard the same thing about late model mustang seats in classics, but it is doable. You just have to be creative on the mounting. From what I understand, 05+ are even worse because they're so tall, but 94-04 can work. You might consider getting some generic racing seat mounting brackets and fab it up. It wasn't too challenging to get the racing seats in. Drill bit, bolts and some bar stock.

I dropped the seat off at PG this morning. They're just doing the insert and said they'd have it done in a couple of days for $150. Got a great vibe from them. There was a pimped 64 impala out front and more than a couple sets of custom classic car door panels and seats that looked ready for pickup. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

That motherfucker is a lying, thieving bastard. The job was simple and never changed from day one. That dude just cannot do interior work. I wonder if maybe he had a stroke or something, and lost all of his skills. Sad if so, but he has no business trying to operate as a legit shop anymore.

Glad to hear you went to see Pedro. He has always treated me right.

Stay far, far away from Herman's Upholstery in Arlington. That guy is a crook.
I used them in 2005-2006 and he does great work.
He did mess up on a stitched line one time (wasn't straight) but fixed it for free and it was perfect after that

Yeah, Pedro wasn't there first thing this morning, but the shop was humming with activity. I've been to a few trim shops before and this place was by far the most impressive. Guys were cool and I expect they'll do a good job. He even said that he wished he could do it for cheaper, but the way the seat is put together is more complex than most, and would take more time.

Edit: He just called. It's done already!

If I order skins from the same place you got yours, will the guy in Haltom City install them?

I don't have the time, or patience to deal with that.

Just picked it up and it looks great! The material matches perfectly. I highly recommend www.pgupholstery.com.

                      Thanks for the recommendation, Jared!

@Brent: they have a katzkin widget on their site, so I think it's fair to assume they'd have no problem doing that install.

I'm sure he will. And I don't blame you. It's not "hard" to do, but it's tedious and time consuming, and my fingers were killing me for a couple of days afterwards.

This is when I picked them up. I'll see about shooting the repair when I have some sunlight. I'll post pics once I get them installed, but that's gonna be a project. I'll likely be getting help from Dick Fitzwell's rod shop on that one.

I will be calling them soon to do my truck.

67-68 Cougars had lower seat pans compared to Mustangs to compensate for the thicker foam of the Cougar seats. If you have an early model I don't know if they will interchange, but it might be worth looking into.
