  • Our State Fair visit and one big disappointment...

Went to the Fair yesterday (Tues 9/29) and enjoyed our time there with one exception.

We did all the normal stuff, went through the Auto Show buildings, saw the Horse Show, watched the Pig Races, visited all the artsy/craftsy stuff for sale, took photos with the "Buttered Elvis" sculpture**, watched the Parade and then the light and fireworks show over the fountain, and finally walked the Midway after dark to enjoy the sounds/smell/neon (now LED) lights and even road one ride that almost made Robin puke...

It was a pretty good time.... but:

The one tradition we always adhere to is the eating of the Fletcher's Corny Dog from the big vendor stand by Big Tex.... and It was awful, not just mine either, both of 'em were terrible. I should have taken 'em back for a refund.

I don't know what was different, but for 10 coupons each, they damn sure should taste better than they did.

How was your excursion to the fair this time, and did you eat a bad Corny Dog too?

    mardyn

** I know it's not really Elvis any more, but it was one time back years ago, and we've always since called it the "Buttered Elvis" display.

also not that impressed w/ the corn dog. It was good but not great. I'll try the jalapeno corn dog monday.

Try the mueller sausage on a stick...always good

I was there Friday. Tried the Country Fried Bacon, not good, a caramel apple, not good and an ice cream cone. Better. Good thing the wagon was parked in the Corral amongst the Cougars and the cooler was full of beer.

Is it weird that this thread is making me hungry even though everybody's bashing the food?

Every time I've been to the State Fair it has been a fucking beatdown. It's also some of the worst food and smallest portions I've ever had. My old lady enjoys it for some reason, so I let her drag me out there every other year or so. I'd rather just smash my feet and ankles with hammers and put $300 in the trash.

We go because our kids love it. Once the get too old for it to be fun we are out.
