LOL at your methods of calculating fuel efficiency.

I think every car I have ever owned, the lower it gets on gas, the faster the needle moves.

Fuel economy has never been Kia's strong point. The cars are cheap as all get out but over a few years those $3k more expensive Toyotas are cheaper to drive. My last Corolla averaged 34-35 around town and got 39+ on freeway road trips. My Camry does better than that but it's a hybrid, it also cost nearly $10k more than a Corolla though.

        maybe with the older ones

but my 06' has 98k miles and the mpg's continued to get better with every tank until 60 or 70k where it leveled off to what it is now

I got mad one time after borrowing my buddies Geo Metro and it burned 3/4 of a tank in about 240 miles. Didn't seem that good until I filled it up and it was 6 gallons to top it off! LMAO!

My sister has a 99 Beetle TDI. Sucker gets 52MPG Highway and 42 city. Any time I drive a really long distance, I borrow her car. My F150 is more manly, but gets 17mpg.

It's also 210hp vs a whole lot more. Not knocking it, the old TBI engines did pretty good on fuel economy but power wise they are 50hp short of the 96+ and 100+ less than the newer 5.3s.

I agree that power makes a difference but I would think 15 years of advancements in fuel injection would at least net the same mpg.
