I made a digital clock back in tech school very similar to the one he made.. Using discrete components, meaning no components specifically designed for a clock but rather a simple timer chip connected to counters and 7 segment displays.. I didn't get in trouble......???

I don't buy the dry run crap. His father has run for President in Sudan twice, based on women's right, human rights, and improving relations with America.

Now, I can certainly see how the National Media jumping on this may have unintended consequences for those overseas that wish to do Americans harm. But I don't buy that the student, or his father set out with intentions of this being a dry run.

So...Little Ahmed is going to the White House, was invited by Mark Zuckerberg to attend a meeting at Facebook HQ, and has been contacted by officials at NASA.

    Sounds normal.

None of this makes any damn sense whatsoever.

    Either
    A. The NSA/CIA spying on all of us is really working
    B. The terrorists are not trying hard enough
    C. It's all a conspiracy (Iron Man 3 style)

It would be easy as shit to reign terror on us soil, in so many ways. Mohammed durka allah akbar could very easily just walk into any school with a bomb and detonate that shit.

I am with Denny, Frost, and a few others. That shit looks like a dry run, whether or not the kid knows he is involved. And I will point out this happened about the same time ISIS threatened to send suicide bombers to US soil.

ISIS has vowed to “repeat September 11” by sending a fleet of suicide bombers and truck loads of explosives to American shores. In a chilling new video — which features quotes fro…

If we're going to be cool with Ackmed with what looks like a bomb, then dammit, little Jimmy with his fingers like a gun saying "bang bang" should not result in arrest and expulsion.
    100% agree.

I know but they described it as having wires hanging out everywhere. The description I first heard sounded like a crude bomb, and the pics pretty much confirm that.

You could easily have thought some of it was 'bomb like' in appearance. At a glance, yes, this looks suspicious. Should the school have looked into it? Absolutely. Did they need to haul the kid away in cuffs? Not until they verified there was something legit that warranted that action.

The first teacher that saw it should have taken the clock from him informing him that it was cool but not a good idea to have at school. The teacher could have simply given it back to him at the end of the day with instructions to not bring it back (and noted it in his records). End of discussion. Once another teacher saw the clock, protocol should have been to notify administration, evacuate the area, detain the kid there until he's either cleared or needed to be hauled away, and notify proper channels to investigate the 'device'. Had that been their reaction, it wouldn't be a problem.

I'm more upset that everyone is calling it profiling. First, call a spade a spade -- who is using IED's to blow stuff up? Second, every person who brings such a device to a public place should go through the same process handled as described above, not the rush to slap cuffs on and haul him away. Just my .02.
