Do deep stretching after and the night of your workouts.
I purchased a foam roller several months ago and have been using it almost every day. Foam roller will have a similar impact on your muscles and will promote myofascia release, the same result you're expecting out of a therapist. I can't say it will be as intense as a strong therapist but if you get a good firm foam roller with notches and points in it, it will be close.
I will foam roll/stretch an hour a night depending on what I work out. I don't necessarily feel a shorter recovery time but I feel much better after it all.Originally posted by Cmarsh93zDon't Fuck with DFWmustangs...the most powerfull gang I have ever been a member of.

I could probably count on one hand how many times I stretched prior to a few months ago. I didn't start stretching hardcore until I found out the benefits of it and that it was the main reason why I couldn't squat beyond parallel comfortably. My body is terribly stiff.Originally posted by Cmarsh93zDon't Fuck with DFWmustangs...the most powerfull gang I have ever been a member of.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I have a buddy who actually works out pretty hard. Many years ago we were all at dinner with my brother for some bday or something and my buddy walks in, sits down, and is just drinking water and not eating anything. We all ask what's up and he said he just got another deep tissue massage as he had worked out really hard the past few days and described it like the masseuse was pulling his muscles apart, almost tearing them to loosen them up and allow them to heal more quickly.
I thought it sounded crazy, but cool at the same time. I guess it's legit if you have a masseuse who actually knows what they are doing. I've never worked out hard enough to need someone to pull/tear my muscle back apart after some crazy workouts. haha.Ford

You're just unlucky then. Everyone's different, bruh. With me, I just need to get past a "breaking in" stage, when I first get back into lifting. I passed that about 2 months ago, but felt it was worth mentioning. Those weeks really suck. Some real pain there. Difficult to move. Once that's over, I just get some small soreness, even while steadily increasing in weight.
Now, that's not to say that I can't ever feel any soreness. If I press on the muscles, or if I do something that makes that muscle work pretty hard, I can feel some soreness that's mild at most. That's it. I can beat the shit out of them in the gym and get pretty sore, but from personal experience I find its not actually necessary for muscle growth. Just a steady weight increase. I do what works for me. And it does work, so I'm not changing it.
For example leg day. What I'll try to do, is get 4 sets of 12 on squats. So if I achieve that, I'll do that again next week. Until finally that weight is "easy". Can't ever really call it easy. Then its time to pile on more weight. For me, I usually do increments of 20 lbs. If I was only able to get 3 sets of 12, and 1 set of say 6, or 10, I know its not time to move up in weight yet.Last edited by Gasser64; 09-10-2015, 03:33 PM.WH
