  • Shooting in Frisco?

A buddy of mine's neighbor (6 houses down) was apparantly gunned down this morning around 10 am. Said the guy was hit 5 shots out of 6 and was a gold dealer. Has 2 kids that had just left the house to go to school, they shot him in the alley. Anyone live in that area? It was on Canoe st.

Fatal shooting in Frisco under investigation

Police continue to search for the suspect in a shooting that occurred just before 10 a.m. Thursday near the 7900 block of Gulf Street. The victim of the shooting was transported by the Frisco Fire Department to Centennial Medical Center in Frisco where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not released the identify of the victim, who was found in the west alleyway behind Gulf Street, and have only said that he was an older male.

A neighbor across the street from the alleyway knew the victim and his family and said he thought the shooting was motivated by money, or a robbery. He said he was smoking outside when he heard two men arguing before a gunshot rang out.

The neighbor ran to help the victim and heard another three gunshots.

“It looked like he was trying to run away from the shooter,” the neighbor said, explaining that he found the victim at the edge of the alleyway.

He said he saw the suspect take off running north with what he thought was a black bag. It was then that he said his military experience kicked in, and he checked the victim for a pulse and to see if he was breathing before he called 911.

Another neighbor down the street said she didn’t realize the noises she had heard this morning were a part of the shooting until she read about the developing story on the Internet.

“I opened the door, let my dogs out and heard ‘boom, boom, boom,’” she said, recalling what she had heard. “I thought someone was hammering something.”

As of Thursday afternoon, the police had blocked off Canoe Road between Gulf Street and Wharf Street while investigators walked in and out of the alleyway. At one point, a helicopter from the Texas Department of Public Safety hovered over the neighborhood looking for the suspect.

Frisco’s Command Communication Center vehicle was set up with cameras on the neighborhood and detectives inside logging information about the ongoing investigation. Officer Greg Barnett said the department was using the city’s Geographic Information System’s maps inside the center to get an accurate layout of the neighborhood.

Texas Rangers were also there to help as “extra eyes and ears on the scene” Frisco Police Chief Todd Renshaw said.

Three Frisco ISD schools – Gunstream Elementary, Wester Middle School and Centennial High School – closest to the shooting were placed on lockdown this morning after the suspect was seen running in the opposite direction from the campuses.

“It was a preventative lockdown, and at no time did we think the suspect was on one of the campuses or heading to one of the campuses,” Sgt. Adam Henderson of the Frisco Police Department said. “The schools were taken off lockdown after about an hour, and we would not take the school off lockdown if we felt the children were in danger.”

In a statement, Frisco ISD said no students were in danger and police were on site at the campuses.

“We appreciate the police and their efforts to ensure the safety of our students,” the statement said. “Even though they did not feel there was any imminent danger to our students, they exercised these procedures to secure the buildings and safeguard our students and staff.”
