What does animal control do in this situation

Dog is a little past due on shots. Gets in a scuffle with something, not entirely sure what, but I believe it was a opossum. He had one small puncture wound on his cheek. Aside from that, he was just shook up.

I mean to test for rabies, is it not a mandatory 10 day quarantine and they cut the head off and test for rabies? Is it an automatic death sentence when something unknown has injured a dog?

No the quarantine is so they dont have to remove the head i believe. If the dog bit someone and it was suspected i believe they would cut the head open if there was time.

But ive never seen how this exact situation happens.

Rabies shots are cheap btw...

Keep an eye on the dog for odd behavior. IF it starts acting odd, quarantine and then, if you see the later stages, you know what to do
