Buying from CoPart?

Anybody purchased anything from CoPart?

There is a boat hiding in the pictures of another boat that I want to take a look at. It's located at the Haslet branch so I would like to run over and take a look.

Is it as simple as signing up on the website so I can go take a look in person? The lady on the phone said she wasn't sure if it had been listed yet so she couldn't find a lot number.

Well shit, I thought you didn't.

My understanding was that you could purchase a boat using one of their "brokers" and didn't need a license. But, that is also why I'm asking here to see if anyone can shed some light on the subject.

it's a pain in the dick. Also, that boat you see may have been sold, sometimes they sit around waiting for paper work to go thought, and pictures may be out of date.

If figured as much.... Really I just wanted to see if it was there and would at some point be for sale so I knew if it would be worth the hassle.

A guy i trade truck parts with did the same thing, and said he doesnt have a liscense. I think you may have to have one to go TO the auction, but you can do the online deal without.

Future Reference for all...

You can sign up to be a "member" online and that allows you access to the yard to look.

Still not sure on bidding/buying as I think it varies depending on the vehicle in question/ status of the title.

I have signed up online, and obtained a member ID and headed to the yard that day. Took my cousin, and he was able to sign in there in office, got his member ID and we walked right into the lot. We were all over the yard viewing cars, then this messican came up and told us wee were not able to walk as we pleased, and had designated areas of where we can view cars. Just sign up, head to the yard and ask them for the location of the boat that is NEAR the one you want to actually look at it, and they would tell you and just head over.

That's exactly what I did this morning and the boat was still there. It was picked up by the insurance last august so it's been sitting out a long while and the giant hole in the side of it wasn't shown in the pictures. I could use some of the parts and the motor/trans looked spotless so I'll keep watching. They couldn't pull up any info on when the title would be released so I'll just check back every so often to see if it's on the auction block.

You can buy some things without a dealer license. Filter your search for "no license required" You can also submit a business license and buy more stuff. Look for pure sale items and I highly suggest you watch a few auctions before bidding.....shit goes for a lot more than expected and you can be bidding against people in Mexico and even the Middle East. Bought 2 cars last week from copart and have bought a ton of fox body cars nation wide off that site with no issues. You do NOT need a license to buy anything under $1000 but after you do. If you dont have a account there you can go to a local location and put money in a account before you start to bid. There stick ass hell on cars being paid for/ picked up on time and if your not careful fees will ad up and you could loss the car. If it's at a local site ( ft.worth or dallas location) you can go there and check it out before bidding.

Yep. Used to be a member, back in the old days when I used to have a dealer license. Never really did much with it, but IIRC, the rules went further than that by saying only salvage dealers could by salvage title cars. To eliminate shady dealers that just try and sell junk that isn't road worthy, after doing a some paint and bodywork. Also, no one man is allowed to have a salvage, and and regular auto dealer's license. If you do have 2 separate businesses, say your wife owns the salvage and you own the dealership, they can't be on the same property. And no more than 4 dealers may occupy one building as a place of business. Lots of little rules like that.
