25,145,561 people live in Texas. There were 1,246 reported murders and of those 805 involved a firearm. So .003% of the population was murdered in a gun related crime. Spread it out over 365 days and it's a .0008% chance.

There are plenty of other factors to consider but in your situation it'd probably make it even less likely. That and it's FBI supplied crime data, factored with a gun grabbing agenda. If someone killed their entire family with a hatchet but blew their brains out all of the deaths are counted as gun related.

Regardless its a very slim chance.

One of the first things taught in any kind of self defense or firearm class is to be aware of your surroundings. If you can't recognize a threat you can't possibly defend yourself.
