Any Buick GN experts in the house?

My neighbor is wanting to sell a Buick GN, I'm half way interested in the car for the right price.
I looked at it earlier today he wasn't at home and the for sale sign didn't didn't give any details.

I don't know anything at all about the car at this point other than it's got 138,080mi or 238k cant really tell through the window, a shitty 2 tone paint job the factory black is ok shape the rest not so much. The part in between the car and bumper is missing and it's got a good size dent in the roofline above the pass door. Interior looks ok shape. My other neighbor told me he thought the guy was asking $10K for it.

Any ballpark estimates what this car is worth? No way I'd give anywhere remotely near $10k for it.

No way to tell the miles other than guessing due to the lack of the extra digit on the OD...I would say normally you can just look at the car overall and kinda determine that but considering how many people upgrade and restore these cars it might LOOK like 138k but have 238k...or it could have 38k heavily abused miles on it done 1/4 mile at a time
Really would need to see the engine bay, interior, and know whats been done to it over the years. Grand Nationals only came black. Not gray on black, not blue, not 2 tone, not with red pin stripes, no chrome (other than the Buick badge on the grille), and only had the gray/black buckets with headrests embossed with the power 6 logo. I've seen MANY people selling or trying to pass off T-Types and 87 Turbo T's as GN's. VIN number won't tell you if its specifically a GN..only that its a Buick Regal T-Type. The option sticker in the trunk will tell you if its got the G80 Posi rearend (believe it or not it WAS NOT standard) and if not its great for single wheel burnouts but not that great for 60 foots. I can answer most of your questions...but I've seen much nicer 86/87's for less money on the Turbo Buick Facebook page RECENTLY.

I figured the paint was a value killer, idk why anyone would do that looks better all black. But who knows what kind of idiots have owned it. It does have the black and gray seats, dont recall seeing the power 6 logo but i may have not looked close either. What should i look for on the build sheet in the trunk?

I was more interested in it as a fun daily driver/future project car more than anything. I had no idea these cars pulled in that kind of cash. I planned on offering him a grand and seeing if he bit. I think he's hard up for some $ or he wouldn't be selling it.

Also, I would only touch an 86 or 87. Not sure what year that is, but if it's a hot air car, run away. The grill and wheels are hinting at an 87, but that's easily placed there.

Denny MY car IS a converted 85 hotair...while there is some truth to what you said...don't think you cant make an 84-85 hotair car run down a track...got a few buddies that might argue. Anyways...that car has the 86/87 wheels, the intercooled badges, the 87 grille, and also the split airdam. The rear window tint is too dark to see if it has the 3rd brake light (only installed on the 86/87).
The non factory reverse WH1 paint scheme isn't my taste. The bumper fillers shouldn't concern you because they are terrible quality from the get-go and most people (myself included) have replaced them with fiberglass replacements of varying quality. I would have gone with the Spoolfools 2 piece units if I could do it over again..but mine are better than the factory rubber garbage. I wouldn't give that guy anywhere near 10 grand for that car...unless it has some MAJOR big time parts and he can document its build from a reputable known Buick tuner/builder. I'd say given the photos...without any other info...thats a 4-5k car. Every brother in the hood thinks his ragged out Turbo Buick is worth a fortune...when its a really beat down leaking rattle trap with rotted door seals.

Wow....he's smoking crack! Unless it has a massively nice driveline and interior it's a $3500-$5000 at best. Most super clean cars are barely selling for $16k and that is if well kept or modded right.

Personally, they are money pits with windows that leak so bad you can't go to a carwash and you are constantly afraid someone is going to steal it.

He'll never get 9k for that car with the rotted bumper fillers (can be replaced for around 300 if someone scours the internet). Tires look worn as well. Headlights look like they have water in them, headlight bezels have double sided tape on them from tinted covers. Hell...I'd be happier with the car if it was solid black...you don't paint a Grand National 2 tone with a fugly red patch and then tell people its a Grand National. That automatically kills the value. Maybe he can sell it to some brothers that race at Yellowbelly who don't know any better. 5k at best.

Definitely a project car for sure, paint is hideous no doubt I'd put it back to original eventually if I bought it. Think I'm gonna wait him out till he's real desperate and see what he says. But as they say you can't fix stupid.

Don't know for 100% but I'm almost positive considering the owner it's bone stock. Have no idea how well the car even runs.

Highly doubt it. Finding a truly STOCK 87 GN is like finding a needle in a haystack. It was and is just too damn easy to make them stupid fast with very little money. Dude lost his effin mind painting it like that.
