I know the reputation for old Jags and some other lux cars, but what about a 3 series late 90's convertible? Well cared for, garaged, but high miles (over 160k). Would you? What are the problems typical with these? $4500 sound high?

The first thing I think of when I see a BMW or Benz all modded out like that is that car has been beat into the ground. I see it all the time. Owners of those spend all kinds of money on stupid wheels and crap and don't spend a dime on maintenance. Find another one. But if you just plan on swapping a LSX then who cares about all the typical problems.
