  • where to buy a suit

    Hey fellas,

Any of you have advice on where to go to buy a suit. I'm automatically excluding Mens Warehouse, Jos a Bank, and K&G...

I'm looking for something that I'll use for meeting with corporate CTOs and the like. I won't be wearing a tie so a highly formal suit is out but other than that I'm kinda clueless on this. I guess I'm looking for a place that will also help educate me a bit on this.

    Budget is around $500 +/- $100..

    Any thoughts?

Nordtrom Rack, or go to Macy's and take it to a tailor

Suit with no tie seems a bit off. That's just my opinion though.

Why are those three off your list? I know jack shit about suits so I am not giving you shit for exluding them. In fact they are the first ones I would think of. I don't own a suit and probably should buy one some day.

Suit with no tie was very common in the defense industry.

Macys, nordstroms, and a few others will hit your budget after tailoring. Anything not tailored will look crappy anyways so no sense in spending big bucks on an untailored suit.

They used to have a clearance Dillard's at six flags mall. Pretty good suits for the price.

Im not a fan of mens warehouse. Too many mistakes and low quality. Over priced for what you get as well.

It's been a while since I have been there (6-8 years or so) but I have bought several suits / sports coats and slacks at Men's Wearhouse and always had a good experience. I even rented a tux from them at one point. Was very easy since they did all the measurements there and had everything tailored. They also had a good range of price points.

Have they gone downhill or something?

I just wear camo shorts and a black shirt when i meet with CTO's, but I've bought my Hugo suits at Macy's. I think Men's Warehouse turned into a volume store, its not really where you'd go for nice suits, I'm probably wrong though.
