  • Bought a CPO car and now I'm told the tint is too dark?

2 years ago I bought my wife a CPO VW. The car was originally from Florida, they bought it at auction and sold it in Texas. The dealer at the time gave it a fresh inspection sticker.

Just took it to get it inspected at my regular inspection place and they put a meter on the window and the guy is telling me that it's too dark to pass inspection. He didn't fail me on the inspection, kinda directed me to take it back to VW and let them deal with it. The thing is that this is factory tint. I'm guessing it's legal in Florida but not Texas. Should I just take it to VW over and over for inspections or should I raise a stink and tell them to fix it? I have to look at exactly when we bought it but the VW CPO program is for 2 years and I'm pretty sure we're at that 2 year mark right now.

Roll windows down and pull the fuse/relay. Inspections are a bullshit tax anyway.

They just started this a couple of years ago and I think they were giving a year or so for compliance.

The limit used to be 20% to pass state inspection but it changed about two years ago to 25%. The state law has always been 25% though so it never made much sense.

At a lot of places now they won't do the inspection if they can't check the windows.

Well that's bullshitidness. After I typed my first response I remembered my damn limo-tinted ranger has roll up windows lololol. I just go back where I'm known - no issues. If I was ever denied, I'd just go somewhere else, unless they charged me and I had to return, then I'd just go home and remove my glass from the doors......

You don't have to have windows to pass!

I tried that and they said they wouldn't inspect it.

Pulling the fuse never works. I even left the windows out once when o was doing the motors and regulators and the inspectors refused because it asks for window tint level on front windows and NA is not an acceptable answer and anything else would be falsifying government documents (remember the inspector who went to jail for ten years yeah they include that in the inspector training)

Peel the old tint off then get a legal set done

It does not ask for window tint level it asks pass or fail question for tint. They recently added a tab that says "all safety items passed" and that's what I click on instead of answering P on 20 things.

Big deal. It is NOT "factory tint". Peel it and get legal or go somewhere else who will pass it this time. Dealership does not owe you anything.
