Ive seen bartenders use well liquor in mixed drinks then pour just a tad of the top shelf liquor in the straw. The reasoning was that the first sip will be stronger and taste like top shelf...so youll have trouble distinguishing the rest. And since it started out tasting so strong you may even think the bartender poured it heavy for you.
