I'd say no. My old home had an hoa and they were so bad, I joined the board of directors so I wouldn't be picked out constantly. Having joined and seen how irrational these sewing circle gashes are, I'd never live in one again. I've since moved to a volunteer hoa and love it. People take care of their crap because they care. I don't appreciate voting on foreclosing over $1000 in fees all via email. Bs

I own some little shit box condos and every one of them has an HOA and every HOA is fucked up. I hate them with a screaming passion. They don't like me because I am white and do not live on the property, I think.Last edited by svauto-erotic855; 07-20-2015, 07:12 AM.Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

Ours has two more zeroes on it. Thankfully we're moving soon. We haven't had any issues (other than gates not being closed and things like that), but fuck paying all that money for little to no return.

What are you guys not getting from your HOA?
Ours is only 600/year for:
-2 fitness centers
-3 pools
-2 resident centers
-probably 6-8 parks with bball and tennis courts at some
-sand volleyball
-security
-4 or 5 catch and release ponds
-dog washing room (surprisingly useful)
-lots up maintained greenspace and trails
-edit: and reduced golf fees
And they prevent people from allowing dogs to bark all day, parking on the streets, organize events, enforce lawn upkeep and overall better the properties.
I take it some of yall are just being fined sporadically and not getting any true benefit?

A family member of mine lived in one and beside his house was a common area. (Basically a open empty grass lot.) He had to call constantly to get the HOA to mow it while of course I would bet if he missed a few weeks they would be quick to drop a fine on him. His HOA was also privately owned and very closed doors so to speak, not very transparent with where funds went or how they where used.
Of course being in the car hobby scared me away from moving into a house with a HOA. The worry was about having a car in the driveway that isn't registered or too many cars here etc. (Right now I have 6 cars here for 2 people.) Add in having a boat parked in my driveway from time to time and I doubt I would get along with a HOA.1997 Miata - Weekend\Autox Car

We do not live in an HOA and I would really rather not. I understand that they can help preserve property values and ensure neighbors are doing the right thing, but I have a huge issue with giving any entity the type of power over my home that they yield, voluntarily. Great amenities or not.

Congratulations. You live in a master planned community. Not everyone does. Most HOA's are shit, whether that's been your experience or not. I've read enough horror stories to never want part of one, and it doesn't have anything to do with being trashy people.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

All the horror stories youve read about HOAs are outnumbered by the horror stories of shit bag neighbors.

I rented a house for the first time in my life and the people behind me have two freaking pit bulls that they keep out at night and bark on occasion. They bark a lot during the day but I'm rarely home during day light hours at the moment.
My brother lives in a hoa and it is somewhat nice but I couldn't abide by all the rules. If I couldn't live in the country then I'd live in a HOA. Fortunately I found something on a large amount of land with no possibility of neighbors due to flood plains from a creek that borders property. I'm white trash at heart and while I could live in a hoa I'd have to talk to some home owners before hand and feel it out. My brother can't have a unhooked car trailer in his driveway for more than a few hours before someone calls.
