Nothing really, he would just stand there and swear he was telling the truth, blah, blah, blah. Most of the time we never said anything to him as it wasn't worth the energy. What was really uncomfortable to watch is when he'd try to hit on a chick and tell them these absurd stories, was like watching a slow train wreck

It would appear so. The grandpa with all the history loved him enough to send him abroad but didn't leave him any medals.......sigh...

Yes. The other one made the uber-wealthy, 11 year old cadet, 16 year old officer, French foreign legion serving, law school finishing, law firm partnering, Econ Phd having, 6 language speaking son of gun look like a slacker. The other grandpa was God.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

My great uncle has a similarly awesome life. Studied law and business admin at Yale, then joined the 82nd airborne. Then became a swimmer who won a number of national and world titles, raced stock cars for many years, competed in LeMans in 1958, won the Rickenbacker Trophy for sport fishing, and once drove a Land Rover from London to Khatmandu. He was also a photo journalist and war correspondent for many years. Claimed he had been to all but 2 countries in the world, and was jailed in a few for taking pictures of holy places where it was prohibited. He amassed and now owns a multi million dollar collection, which has been called New York's Smithsonian of collectibles. I'm actually waiting for him to ship me a pair of dinosaur eggs.

My grandfather never had any big war stories or wealth, but he made my grandma happy until the day he died. I don't think anyone else could have done that. I guess he's a one-in-a-billion.

He'd also be sad if I had to lie about him to impress others. Some of the funnest 5imes we had were hunting down grocery carts that wandered off from the parking lot. He returned them for a small hunk of change that we'd immediately turn around in the store and buy candy and sidas. We made quick work of them before we went home, so we didn't get yelled at by my mom.

Good times. I just wish I could have been with him when he blew by Petty and Earnhardt in the final lap at Daytona.

I am not sure of the logic of posting a today's newspaper when posting a copy of a nearly 70 year old document and what in the hell does #1BJJ mean? Who gets the paper anymore anyway?

In combat exploits during his much shorter time of service he did at least on paper one up my other grandpa.

He was married 3 times and had children in each marriage; I was one of many grandchildren. I have an uncle in Austria who is a few weeks younger then me; there is also an uncle that died in his 70s. I also do not even know if there were any medals for him to leave to me. Paying for a plane ticket and handing me some cash is also the extent of his support for my trip.

Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.
