  • They don't really deal anymore

Bought a new vehicle, not going to say what cause I want to focus on the subject of the thread. But something I've noticed, is that most dealerships don't really want to make "deals". When you're buying something brand new, anyway. Can't really speak to used stuff, cause when I've bought used stuff, it was always when I thought I was getting a good deal already. No real need to spend a month or two searching for a new vehicle, that's in good condition for the price.

So I guess this is about new stuff. They don't seem to want to take any money off anymore. Is the stuff really just flying off the lot so fast that they just don't have to? Or is it better said, that if you want a deal, you really just need to wait until THEY decide to lower the price? And then just swoop in and scoop it up asap.

We've all heard the stories where someone went in there and they just haggled so damn good, they ended up getting the damn thing for 25% off. I'm calling BS! That's not my experience. Thread sounds like a complaint, I guess it sort of is, but I'm just **wondering** if anyone else thinks the same.

I'm surprised, you have such a way with words I would have thought you could get 50% off, at least.

Guess not. I mean I've tried, but it was always "No, no,... no I've got plenty of buyers."

Maybe I'm buying shit at the wrong time.

People dont realize how slim a dealer's profit margins are on new cars (different for higher end cars).

A franchise is just a front for a used car lot, parts, and service.

This is true. What you buy does matter, as does when you buy. Deals are out there, though. You have to be flexible, and you have to be willing to walk if necessary. You also should be well researched, and have an actual ability to negotiate. If you walk in there like Reggie Strout, expect to be fucked with and laughed at.

Tons of people think they are good negotiators, and they aren't.

Might have felt a little better if they had. Course since I was talking to a standard issue salesman (who did seem to be a decent dude) it was fairly easy to see when some embellishment, and some 'I don't know the answer to that question' was going on.

I've always heard the markups are basically double, but I've no idea of the truth of this or the percentage they need to make to make a profit/stay in business.

It's up to the buyer to find the "deal", not the seller to make you one.

There's a sucker born every minute! They're not cheating you out of money if they know how to spend it better than you do!

                    QFT.

Especially with internet specials and whatnot, there just isnt the haggle room built in anymore.

Parts and service is what keeps the bills paid and the lights on. They don't make dick on the front end of the sale. BUT there a checks that come in from the manufacturer for volumes.

When I worked at Porsche, Porsche would hold 6 figure checks over the service department's survey scores. Talk about making an owner nervous. Keep those csi numbers up no matter the cost.

Alright since it looks like I fucked up the OP, I'll say it was a boat. Standard issue pontoon. Should have said boat dealers, my bad. From the replies, its looks like its quite a bit more specific to what you're buying, than I realized. My apologies.

Whoever told you that is a retard. I mean, what the fuck? What other retail business rocks a 100% profit margin with as much competition as is in the automotive industry (maybe clothing?). Seriously Justin, use your head.

5-7% net profit is pretty normal.

A new Fiesta sold gets a Ford store about $550 for what that is worth. Hell, employee D plan is about invoice.
