I once rented a car and returned it full of gas, on time and clean. I wasn't charged anything extra and had a very good experience.

I did a track day @ MSR about ten years ago in a rented Cavalier. It was in January, and cold as hell. After lunch when the track/tires/cars were cold they told us to take it easy for the first few laps to let things warm-up. I didn't and dropped two tires off in the rattlesnake section, banging the oil pan on the curbing in the process. I finished the ~20 minute session, and until I pulled into the paddock, I had no idea I had destroyed the oil pan, and dumped the rest of the oil on the ground. I pulled it into the grass to not make a mess, and had a friend go grab some 20W50 oil. I drove it all the way home and returned it the next day. I know Aggie97 was there that day, and maybe a few others.

Long long time ago in Panama City Beach. Air bags were pretty new back then. Repeatedly ran a rental into a concrete barrier to see at what speed the air bags popped. Yes... cheap tequila was involved.

That crash sucked for a lot of people. It ended up closing down the rental agency, which meant I didn't get to drive those cars anymore. Their office was right next to mine at the time and I'd help them shuttle cars back and forth every once in awhile. I was even in one of their commercials!

All the cars are still there but they don't rent them out anymore.

I've done all kinds of stuff to rental cars and test drive cars over the years. Here's the only one I have on video and it's not bad at all. The best part of is that the burnout was about 20 yards down the street from the rental car place. We basically pulled out of the lot, I jumped out with my camera and my buddy took about 1K miles off the back tires.
