I went too hard taking a new corolla up and down pikes peak. It was my first time with paddle shifters and I think the altitude was getting to me as well. There was smoke and trans smell at the bottom. I limped it back and stayed off the mountain roads for the remainder of my visit.

While I have never torn up a rental car, I have seen an incredible amount of shit in the way of people fucking them up. Some highlights:

Johnny Depp is on the "Do Not Rent" list because he jumped up and down on a vehicle roof, collapsed it, and welched.

A cartel rented a 2500 diesel, uparmored it, and it was recovered by Mexican police. The police then painted it blue, put a siren on top, and used it as their vehicle.

Committing suicide in a rental car is more common than it should be.

People get mad as hell when you repo their rental car, and always say "why are you taking my car away!?!?"

90% of all vehicle damage occurs when backing up.

I have recovered several pistols from turnback vehicles (all cops) and one machinegun; an officer actually left a fully automatic M4 in a rental vehicle and hauled ass to come get it.


Really though it isn't as bad as you think. Damage claims happen and all, but the biggest pain is repos. People rent a Suburban (it is ALWAYS a Suburban) and then believe it is their vehicle then and forever.

I saw someone trash a Caddy at Fun Ford Weekend in H-town once. Tree fared pretty well, car did not.

Haha that Was hilarious. I was 18 at the time, and was scared I Was going to get caught carrying my cooler of beer to my room up above. Good times!
