Has anyone on here ever appealed a SSI medical decision to terminate coverage?
I've got a close friend whose kid has had health problems since birth. They've been getting Social Security disability insurance since he was born. He's 9-10 now and, out of the blue, Social Security determined that he no longer qualifies for that insurance. They listed a few different sources that they used to make their decision. None of those sources were his primary care physician or the surgeon who has handled most of the procedures he's had. Instead, they listed the kid's school and a minor emergency clinic, etc... as the source of their decision. Basically, people who don't have the whole scope of his condition.
The health issues that the SSI was originally issued for, haven't miraculously healed overnight. They are things that he will be dealing with his whole life. So, to me, it doesn't make sense for them to terminate the coverage.
The family is pretty overwhelmed by the decision. It's not the financial assistance that is the heavy hit, it's the access to quality service that the kid gets from being on SSI coverage.
There is an appeal process they are looking into. I was just wondering if anyone has gone through this and looking for some insight.
Thanks in advance.
