I guess I never really thought about forums being social media. Any time someone says social media I think about things like twitter or facebook where people post a ton of stuff about themselves and try to pretend they are important, and sometimes argue about shit. I always thought of forums as having more discussions and information about much broader topics (and some arguing). Not saying it isn't social media, I just never thought of it like that. There always seemed to be big differents to me between stuff like forums, and things like facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. I guess the later is much more personal and self indulged, and that is more the distinction I always saw.

Social Media is an internet water cooler for those of us with jobs that revolve around 90% or more time in front of a computer. You have total control over what you see, and who you talk to.

WHy do people act like it's some kind of gauntlet you have to run, or your only option is to 100% avoid it?

So out of that 90% you spend in front of the computer, how much of it is spend on this forum?

I didn't "need" a break as I wanted to see what happened with my life as far as productive time as well as reconnecting with some real life people.

First week was a bit odd, thumb went to the place I had the apps on my phone as soon as I unlocked it. After that though I got up and out of bed a little quicker than usual. Checked work emails slightly more, but really my phone use went way down obviously.

One of the most productive months I had at work, but part of that is I got to cut some of the unneeded stuff out.

I started to read more. Averaging a book a week and really enjoying that. But the biggest thing is it made me actually reach out to friends I "see" on social media but haven't seen. I went over to a friends house and swam with her and her hubby/kiddo. Had lunch with someone I haven't seen in 6 months. Called a friend I hadn't talked to in 3 months. And spent more time connecting with the gf and time with the pups.

I am back on Facebook (ditched instagram) mainly to keep up with jiu jitsu related stuff, but do post some. I lurk a little here and there on here and one other site but much less.
