If management takes it serious they are cool in my book. When I worked for a company that did them and actually cared about them, I used it to highlight things that I did that were not known. I'm not real good at self promotion, so those gave me the opportunity to show what I do for the company.

On more than one occasion, my manager was surprised and had no idea I was doing xyz while he was piling on abc and it resulted in some raises.

Same here, my "review" is my quarterly revenue attainment/GM, and % growth. The numbers are there or they aren't, how I get there is my business.

I dont work with my boss. He has each crew chief fill one out and then he also fills ome out for each crew chief. He want to compare of what we rate ourself and what he think we are rated at. Even that he never see us work or on our job. So yes it is a waste of my time

Ive only had to do self evals at one job. The first years I was there I worked hard on it and really thought it through. However, for the next 5 years that I was there each eval read pretty much like this.

I do my job and I do it very well. Im also the only one in this department that actually gives a shit about their job. This is the most honest eval youre going to get from anyone that works here. If you dont agree please call me down to your office and we'll work out what I need to improve on.

I had to do this for 3 years and hated doing it. The last one I had to do I stated that "Every day I am employed here I let my work ethic and accomplishments speak for themselves. If nobody wanted to monitor my performance during the year why should I sum it up and make it easy for them to do their job." I haven't done one since.

Let me guess you haven't figured out why your raises as so low and you are not getting promotions

Actually, I have received quite a few bumps in pay since then and fought to stay hourly when I moved into a Managing position. It's nice to get time and a half for overtime and be the only Manager at my current job doing so. This company has taken very good care of me and I bust my ass for them and they know it.

Waste of time. Even more so if you boss is a cocksucker sleeping with one of your peers.

Jluv has a good strategy to handle it.

Lol nice. Everytime I've filled one out, I never heard back. This was at 3 different companies.

We don't have reviews for sales staff. Your numbers are there, or they are not. We do have monthly and quarterly sales reports, which are a complete waste of time, because they don't read them. I've been turning in the same sales report for one factory, quarterly, for 10 years. I do update the numbers to make them accurate, but my list of needs to take action and suggestions have not changed once.

Occasionally I'll get ripped for something, and I always go back to that sales report and that's the end of it. If you're going to waste my time filling these things out, don't get upset when you get blindsided by something because you haven't read the report. Luckily all that shit is at the factory level as my employer doesn't micro manage.

                                Total waste of time.

My favorite story is a guy (not me) that listed on his self-evaluation a lot of things he was busting his ass to automate, so that he could then concentrate on other things in the department that still needed attention.

His manager used his exact list of "items needing attention" as areas where he needed to improve, and then used that as justification for not giving him a raise. Fucker!
