  • Anyone here ever lived in or near Albuquerque?

Been offered a pretty good job offer and wanted to know what the cost of living and housing runs up in that area? They are flying me out on the 7th of July to look at the job, rental car, hotel, and flying me back on Friday. I would prefer to find a place on the Northeast side of the metro...Bernalillo area maybe...just wondering what I should expect to find in housing/rental property? I'm going to discuss moving expenses with them..they want me bad enough to fly me up there...seems they might want to entice me to make such a big move. Thoughts?

A big truck stop is my assessment of it much like Amarillo IMO

Reminded me of Vegas, without any of the plusses. If this is a corporate move I wouldn't budge for less than a fully paid for relocation, disruption bonus, corp housing, etc.

Don't know about Albuquerque but congrats on the opportunity - best of luck with it all.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Also Google cost of living calculators and get to plugging.. they're not 100% accurate but usually a decent representation

I hated it, but one of my coworkers loves it and is going to retire in the next couple of years and move back.

The only exception to my hate was I could go ski sandia peak

I liked it. Go up on the mountain for a nice 30 degree temp drop. Lots of bike lanes, the food was good, no lawn to mow. They are not big fans of air conditioners though. Plus I would have another buggy and enjoy the desert. Oh and holy shit they love hot air balloons. That was THE pastime when I was up there. Get you a nice pad so I can come visit!

One of our analysts took a job in San Francisco about two months ago. $7,000 a month for an apartment.

At 18 I bought a fake id and misspelled Albuquerque and had to live with it for the next 3 years. That's all I got.

Damn. Even if I could afford it, I don't know that I could stomach paying that much for rent.

                    And fuck California

Depends on where you are, but yeah it's crazy out there. I looked on Craigslist the other day and flats in our old neighborhood can be had for about $5k a month (2 BR, ~1200 Sq ft). Of course, I saw a 2200 sq ft unit on there for over $9k a month, lmao.

I guess it is all about what you make of it while you live somewhere. I enjoyed Fort Worth, hated Lubbock, absolutely hated Corpus Christi. But in Amarillo I just feel like it is not a 24/7 rat race and generally feel more relaxed. People most always say HI, Thank You and excuse me. Seldom did that happen in Fort Worth or Lubbock and almost NEVER in Corpus.

I told him that if you run the numbers he should be homeless. Effectively he could pocket $200 a day if he can figure out how to make it work! That's real money!
