Every time I see a confederate flag it makes me roll my eyes because I know exactly the type of person that carries it. However, it is history, no matter how much people like it or hate it. It is a very important part of this country's history. What I see this whole stupid ass drama fest is nothing more than politics. We're coming up on an election, and whenever emotions run high, politicians will latch on to whatever the fuck it is and try to use it to their advantage to get elected. At the moment it's confederate flags. Elect me, I'll get rid of them. If tomorrow roving bands of anteaters started eating peoples snack cakes there would be politicians lining up with anti-anteater lapel pins and 5 point plans for eliminating anteaters and subsidizing snack cake production. It's nothing much than a cheap trick people are falling for. What concerns me most about this situation is people trying to cover up history they are ashamed of. Ignoring the past is a very dangerous thing to do, and I am concerned about setting a precedence. What flag flew over the US during the forced Japanese Internment camps in WW2? Should we remove Thomas Jefferson from our currency? He was a slave holder? How about George Washington?

If 100 years from now people are flying ISIS flags, I hope your grandchildren will realize it's just part of history. Honestly. I think the flag is cool, but there's a dude I know with one always on the back of his truck with a big WP sticker on the rear glass. He can suck a dick. But yeah, generally the people flying that shit are doing it for attention and to make a statement. Did you see the pictures I posted of Dylann?

They are dumbass rednecks, always. But that doesn't change the fact half our country flew under it for four years.

              This seems appropriate here

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
              ― George Orwell, 1984

This PC bullshit won't stop at the confederate flag. They are already moving to get rid of statues and taking those racist presidents off of the money. One day, it will be the racist white man that they ban.

Yet they will have minority groups that are openly racist TODAY and no one bats an eye.

Ahh OK, I remembet when SGP played them in Garland about 10 years ago their marching band played Dixie...which seemed a little unusual given that there were several African American students in their band.

My grandparents lived in South Garland and my aunt went to school there. I remember going to some of the football games and hearing them play Dixie. I dreamed about going to school there when I got older (I was less than 10 years old) because I felt a proud sense of being a soldier. The statue looked so majestic, standing up on the pedestal with his sword in his hand.

I remember, one year when SG students painted North Garland's owl red, white and blue. There was a lot of that kind of stuff that went on between north and south Garland.
