I heard an argument for ending illegal drug use forever.

Make it all legal, and have Comcast customer support issue it.

DPD does not care. When my old 95 Cobra was stolen, it turned up with fingerprints all over and bullet casings inside. Nobody cared, they where nice enough to have it towed from Highland Park to Rowlett and charge me for the ride! (And also made getting it released a huge pain in the ass.)

The officer I spoke to who took the first report told me they wouldn't do anything other than notify me when it showed up.

people wonder why I don't invest in high dollar alarms, GPS tracking, or any such fuckery on my vehicles. (yes, I realize this is different from a lien-holder perspective)

I invest my money in good insurance coverage.

So I got a tip from a guy that maybe he saw two little kids that didn't belong to they male that had them. He had a plate, so I called Houston PD to inquire about the address, any reports, any missing kids. Yeahhhh, lady one, gave me the number to dispatch, lady two gave me the number to juveniles, and lady three gave me to the homicide division. That nice lady knew that area well, took down the info, and told me she would monitor the situation. I feel your pain.

It is unfortunate that some extremely large departments are so big, and have so many calls, it is just hard for them to manage. Had you called my department we would have strolled into the woods right away and recovered it, even if it was in the county, we help each other out. The other day a seemingly vague call turned into us arresting for UCW, then quickly recovering a stolen vehicle, and then later a call from the victim of a stolen firearm and burglary motor vehicle. Guess where the UCW gun came from? We worked on that god damn paper work all night between calls. Since the reporting guy from the UUMV was so close I called him and asked if he would prefer to pick up his truck from where it was sitting VS the pound. I waited for him about 30 minutes but I prefer it that way to punishing the owner twice.

Smaller towns will almost always get you a different response. Also in big cities they have dedicated call takers and dedicated dispatchers. Plus all of the different jurisdictions they mingle with. With us, dispatch knows exactly what is going on in three cities, fire and police. When the guy called in about his stolen firearm, she goes "Hang on one second, I think I know right where that is". LOL Big cities would have no clue and just send a officer out to take the report. Then it would come back as a delayed hit when entered stolen hours later. Then after some investigation they would put the two together.
                      Whos your Daddy?

                        Same.

But what was the statistic on that? Can't remember, but I read it somewhere. They can only respond to something like 21% of all crimes committed? Made sense, there are a hell of a lot more criminals than there are cops.

Why involve the cops if you know this will happen? Take a spare set of wheels, go get it and file it on insurance.

Only reason I keep cameras around my house - is just to make sure it's not someone I know. I never anticipate getting anything back, never have and pretty sure I never will.
