LA cops keeping people safe from criminals with deadly assault towels..

Los Angeles police shot a man in the head on Friday—supposedly out of concern that he was concealing a weapon under the towel he was holding. They later discovered that the man was unarmed.

But first, the officers rolled the unconscious man—who was bleeding from the head wound—onto his stomach so that they could handcuff him. He was later taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.

It’s unclear whether the officers had any reason whatsoever to suspect that the man was dangerous. The incident occurred in broad daylight in the relatively safe neighborhood of Los Feliz. The officers were driving by when the man flagged them down, calling “police, police.” According to the Los Angeles Times:

The man flagged down officers about 6:35 p.m. at Los Feliz Boulevard and Tica Drive south of Griffith Park, according to a police account.

"This person extended an arm wrapped in a towel. The officer exited the vehicle and said, 'Drop the gun, drop the gun,'" LAPD Lt. John Jenal said.

At that point at least one officer shot the man, officials say. He was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The aftermath was caught on video by a neighbor. The disturbing footage shows the officers handcuffing the man even though he was in very, very bad condition. Nevertheless, a spokesperson for the LAPD confirmed that proper protocol had been followed:

LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith, a department spokesman, said the officers followed standard LAPD protocol in handcuffing the man when they did. At that point, Smith said, the man had not been searched and was considered a suspect.

"We always do that," Smith said. "That's the policy ... to handcuff someone in a situation like that."

Smith cautioned that the investigation into Friday's shooting was still in its early stages. One of the key questions, he said, was why the man flagged down the two uniformed officers.

Smith seems to think “suicide-by-cop”—where a person intent on ending his own life deliberately provokes the police into firing a kill shot—is a possibility here. But maybe the man simply needed some kind of assistance, and didn’t realize holding a towel would be interpreted as a threat.

With all the recent attacks on cops...i may be worried about this too...

This shirt wouldn't happen if we had more laws and regulations on towels.

Mistake #1, I recall a couple of Dallas cops informing me that I was likely to get shot after approaching their vehicle while they weren't paying attention.

Ban grilling out too!!! He was gonna ask his neighbor for some extra charcoal... Geez.

            FORT WORTH, Texas -

Police closed off an area south of Downtown Fort Worth to investigate a shooting by an officer.

It happened early Tuesday morning in the 1300 block of New York Avenue, which is near Interstate 35 and Rosedale Street.

Fort Worth Police Department spokesman Sgt. Steven Enright said an officer responded to a call about a man who was armed with a knife and banging on his neighbor's door.

The officer spotted the suspect in the street carrying something long and shiny. He ordered him to put it down.

The suspect wouldn't cooperate and so the officer, in fear for his life, shot him once in the arm, Enright said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Enright said the object he was carrying turned out to be an 11-inch barbecue fork, not a knife.

The officer, who has been with the department for two years, has been placed on routine administrative leave.

Police said he was wearing a body camera, but did not have time to turn it on. A dash camera did record the incident.

Investigators plan to review the video. They are also gathering evidence at the scene and interviewing neighbors to learn more about what happened.

I don't get why people still ignore cops. If a cop shouts at me, or in my general direction, even if I don't understand what he said, my hands are going up and I am not moving a muscle. lol

That's the smartest thing to do without a doubt. Although you may still get shot by the cops mistaking you raising your hands to surrender for throwing a hand grenade.

With all the shit I have seen in my short Firefighter/Medic career, I have felt a huge motivation to move out of the city. Enough to change my career. (kind of) I'll be in Colorado 30 minutes east of Denver working as a medic at Denver Airport. Everything is already lined up and I'm excited to GTFO of the Big Cities.

That is bad ass. I tell my wife all the time if she were to get a big money offer job anywhere to take it. I have lots of retail management and sales experience and I would probably be out of LE. I enjoy what I do, but sometimes the circus is just a little to much.

The circus in retail is no better, I assure you.

Retail: The customer is always right, usually an asshole about it, and there's little or nothing you can do about it.

LE: Stop resisting! *Shoots "customer", shoots dog, sprinkles crack on dead dog, flashbang in grandma's lap*

"It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

I had a little laugh the other day with a guy I arrested. I told him I came from a customer is always right back ground too just the opposite in LE. The discussion was from his father asking him on the stop if I was one of those ass hole cops. I still think that background helps my current career a lot.

Yeah, but the amount of hatred towards most sales guys is not all encompassing and nationwide! Most sales guys!

I can see it being either a huge help, or a huge hindrance.
