I've had Sink or Swim Pool http://www.sinkorswimpool.com/ for my pool service for several months. I dealt with a guy named Brett, all over the phone. Never met him, though my wife and sitter had both met him and his son, Zac, who did our weekly service.
While Brett was quick to call, or reply to text messages, I didnt get the feeling that he cared one way or another about whatever issue I was contacting him about. I will say they weren't the cheapest pool service I could find, they might be the most expensive. I got their "Premium Package" that included two de filter cleans per year.
My mcmansion is in a neighborhood that was once farmland, and there are very few trees. Consequently, I dont get much blowing into my pool. The skimmers pretty much keep the surface clean, and it's quite unusual to have any debris on the bottom, save for a bit of dust from the air. It's a relatively small play pool, around 10k gallons. It generally stays pretty well balanced, and is pretty low maintenance. My wife is a teacher, and we have a 4.5 and 3 year old kids that love to be in the pool. I have a full time 8-5, and I still wrench nights and weekends at the shop. I can take care of the pool and yard, but it's just as easy to let a service do it, and it always be clean and ready to swim in.
This week, I noticed while swimming that the water stank. Since Wednesday was my next service, I didn't worry a lot about it. Yesterday as I was pulling up to my house, I see the sink or swim truck pulling away. I quickly ran through the house, walked out to the pool, and snapped a picture of the sediment that has been on the bottom for the last few weeks. It was in the same spot that I had shuffled it all to while swimming with the kids. It was pretty obvious that there wasn't even a brush done, especially in the last half hour.
I sent this picture via text to Brent. His reply was that I needed to purchase a Polaris pool sweep. He claimed what was pictured was resettled dust from when his guy had just swept it. I told him that was bullshit, his guy wasn't there long enough to brush it. Since this picture was taken while the guy was at the stop sign down the street, there wasn't even enough time for it to all settle back (to the same spot as it was before he got there...) and that the two other pool services that I'd had had no problem getting it out. If they weren't going to actually clean my pool, then Im getting essentially a chemical only service, and that's 80 bucks a month, as opposed to my 140 I'm paying.
At this point, my phone rings. He's hot. We went back through the several reasons that we had discussed three times now as to why I dont want a pool sweep in my pool, and reminded him that Ive never had one since they have been cleaning my pool, and they knew that going in. Brett told me he just doesnt vacuum pools, but would have his guy do it next week, "if that's what it takes" I told him that it would be a 10 minute ordeal to suck a 4' square area up, and since they dont have a pool sweep to clean the bag on or "check pool cleaner operation" that's on thier service list, and I dont think that once every 1/4 to do that is unreasonable. I reiterate that his guy didn't sweep, and wasnt there long enough to for my wife to even see him in the back yard. He says that wasnt true, and he spends a half hour at each pool he services. We hang up.
I get a text from him that says he wont be servicing my pool anymore and I should find a new service.
This morning, I notice that the floater is riding pretty high in the water, like it was empty. I grab the test strips and take a peek.
This was the last communication we had, until about lunch today, when I saw invoices for the last two months. Looking through my invoices, I've been billed twice for the included DE filter cleanings at $100 each.
TL;DR
Sink or Swim Pool pool cleaning service and pool repair in the Arlington, Fort Worth, Bedford, Euless, Hurst, Saginaw, Keller, Southlake, Grapevine, and Colleyville areas suck, don't clean, don't balance water properly, and will intentionally over bill you.
