  • thyroid/endocrinologist

My wife has been battling thyroid issues most of her life and needs a good doctor that will listen to her issues instead of just running a bunch of lab tests, getting the results and telling her she is in the 'normal' range.

Does anyone here have first hand experience with a good doctor in DFW? Preferably in Frisco, but will go where we need to go.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Not a doctor recommendation, but has she ever tried kelp supplements?

      nope, never heard of it

She did iodine drops for a while, but it didn't help

Kelp is just another source for iodine, so it would likely be of no benefit then.

The problem with thyroid issues is that diagnostics will vary from doctor to doctor because it is still a fairly new area, a lot of doctors don't want to take any risks.

Your best bet is to find a wellness clinic as they are more apt to be willing to try things to fix the problem if there really is one.

UTSW has good Endocrinologists. I have had mine checked out (small lump, biopsied, no issue) and my wife had Thyroid Cancer, which was removed. My wife works in medicine as well dealing with Thyroid and Endocrine issues, I can ask her for a recommended doc if you like.

This, or head up to Mayo Clinic.

Mine is in same boat, tried self treating with iodine, good diet...etc with no luck. Hard to know what's up without tests and a doctor with an open mind while trying new things. They just want to medicate her and she has now given up and doing that route just to function day to day.

You might try and goto a psychiatrist as the root cause could be non-thyroid related. Also, psychiatrists are much more willing to provide medication to assist.

For what it's worth. Here are the recommendations. The ones at UTSW are booked out for months so these are better options. Hope you guys are able to get it resolved.

"Joe Milburn and Sumi Hathiramani at Baylor Irving
or Darren Lakhan closer to Ft. Worth
or Audrey Miklius with endocrine associates of Dallas"

Texts don't always go thru depending on where she is in the hospital. Besides she forwarded it on to her colleagues for their suggestions as well. So bust out your grunge CDs its 1995 baby! Btw they also still carry pagers.
