  • What to do with a box of cat5 cable

So I have a partial large box, probably between 200-300ft, of cat5e cable that I have no use for.

Anyone know where I could sell it, and what a fair price would be?

Throw it away. The fire code in Dallas now requires that all old cables be removed when a new lease is signed before they will give a CO. If you have a truck load of it you can get a little for it but a small amount ain't worth much.

Give it to me. Or you could make 20 ft cables and sell them.

Put it on Craigslist for $20-30. Someone out there needs a small amount and sometimes that is tough to find.

All of the old unused cables above a drop ceiling must be removed before the city will give you a certificate of occupancy. The old cables are considered a fire hazard. You got 25-30 years worth of cables in most commercial properties.

And let me clarify, this is unused cable still in the box. The box comes with 600ft (I think), and there is roughly half a box left. It's at home so I can't read specifics off of it at the moment.

This is not a bunch of used shit that I ripped out of a building.

My point is that there is a ton of used cable out there right now because of the codes passed a few years ago making a small amount of it worthless. Get it now?
