I could never do it because I am fucking neurotic about checking things over in my mind. With that said, I can see how people do it, some people are absent minded or easily distracted. I have a hard time believing that someone would do it intentionally.
Last weekend my wife told me she left a case of cokes in the bottom of her cart at Sam's in the parking lot. I could never do that, I'd check five times to make sure I got it and then I'd probably think about it a few more times before I left the parking lot.
On the other hand, I work with a guy who can remember what hundreds of properties sold for ten years ago, who bought them, some of them he has never seen. But he'll forget where he parks every day unless he parks in the same spot.
