  • Lawn Mower repair?

Anyone know of a good lawn mower repair shop? I have a John Deer push mower that smokes like crazy when it runs. 3 summers ago I did a little tune up myself. cleaned carb, replaced the primer bulb, blah blah... and it seemed immediately after it ran like a champ. Then as the summer went on, it got hard to impossible to start.

so early this spring, I took to some random lawn mower service guy I found a sign on the side of the road. he did a full tune up on it. now it starts on the first pull, but it smokes a lot. Like a lot. I thought at first it was just burning off oil, but I have mowed my yard 4-5 times now and its not stopping. my entire yard is a big cloud of white smoke.

so before I give up and buy a new mower, does anyone have any suggestions or know a RELIABLE mower service place around? Hopefully either in the Mansfield, Las Colinas or Allen area? (i'm in these 3 places quite often)

In for recommendations. My last guy closed up shop, and I've got a couple McLane edgers that need service.

McLane FTW. Mine runs like a champ and edges much cleaner than those ones you hook up to a weed eater.

OP, I like Richardson Saw and Lawn mower. It's at 75 & Spring Valley.

Yep. Mine has never had an issue until the rope broke for the pull start.

My father's needs a good carb cleaning. I just don't have the time to do it myself.

Keep using it but don't check the oil. Just run it till the rod blows out of the side of the block.

Is it an OHV? They can leak oil past seals just like a car. Aside from that, it may just be worn out.

I work on quite a bit of small engines and I am by Mansfield National Golf course. Without getting to much into detail. If its smoking its either bad rings or valves. Its not going to be worth splitting the case and rebuilding . If it runs for a while then starts smoking someone could have put 10w-30 instead of 30w oil in it. This would be the culprit.
