  • car mold

So I open my car this morning as I'm gonna take my lil man to the DR and guess what I find after all these storms

Damn cars floorboard was soaking wet and there was a puddle in the back, mold started growing all over...WTF can I do?? I don't wanna drive it much less put my kids inside of it, anything insurance can do?? Will they total it out?? Oh and all windows were shut, did not leave any down the least bit

Did the water get into the cabin from a window/door weatherstrip failure or were the drains below the front windshield clogged?

Also... Are the front seats power seats?

Here`s a simple youtube video you can watch for ideas

No signs of where it came from, I don't see any water marks anywhere, I hardly ever drive the car so I only open it maybe once every 2 weeks to drive it, yes the front seats are power most of the wetness was in the back passenger side

That sucks. What is your deductible? You might be better off letting a detailer clean it up rather than the dealing with hassle of a mold claim. I highly doubt they would total it based on those pictures.

It's 500, I might just have to take it to the dealership and have them clean and find the source of the leak, I don't know what kind of mold it is but I have heard that black mold can cause them to total it if it's bad enough

Be prepared to be without your vehicle for a while if you take it to a dealership for mold remediation.

And if you take it to the dealer to have it cleaned. Good luck getting any trade in value down the road.

Take it to a car detailer first.

I always used bleach-/water solution to wipe mold off of boat vinyl om the seats and stuff.

Those seats are made of different materials. Auto upholstery is harder to get that kinda stuff off of.

I thought this thread was going to be about some revolutionary new process of molding an entire car body in some form of injection mold...

Similar to cleaning mold off a wall in a house, do not use bleach. Just use water and a mild soap to clean it off.
