Thanks, it's probably because I have such a dry sense of humor that I come across as a bitter old asshole.

Man i forgot all about that thread. Most of that holds true for me still, but im still more technically focused than management focused sinced i moved to a smaller company last year. I really enjoy design engineering even though its a lot more stressful than sustaining or manufacturing.

I think my biggest dream is to just be an inventor and have my own company. i want to be able to just design what i want to design.

Ive never been married to an industry, though ive enjoyed both the oil and gas and defense industries. I was tempted to take a shot with spaceX but didnt want to go to california.

Strych, are you thinking about a change?

Or, to know that my real life is still citified, and the nature is only a temporary escape. I'd rather it be the other way around. I want full immersion. I can go back and visit the city any time.
That's why you're going to the alpine loop, and I'm "stuck" here in the city.

Still a lot better than DFW, though, I'll give you that.

I've only been to CA once, but San Fran was really bad ass. If I had to be in a city, I could probably deal with that one. Way better even than Denver, for example.

Leah and I have talked about becoming an OTR trucking team once the kids are all gone.

I used to see a number of them when I worked at the credit desk doing commercial vehicle finance. It would have to be for one of the big movers, where you stay out for a couple months at a time. Get a rig with the huge extended sleepers (that are more like small RVs) and just travel the country for a few years.

They make good money too.. The husband wife teams I used to review would easily pull in $250k a year.

                        A truck like this:
ARI Legacy Sleepers manufactures high-end custom sleepers for semi trucks.

They even make them with room to carry a motorcycle, with a hoist and all.

Nice! I was just in the cruise ships for the free food, room and atmosphere while at work. We could essentially get rid of everything and work continuously. Most people working on them don't want to keep doing rotation after rotation. I'm all about it.
