Another thing that adds to the mystery is in his phone call he states that he accidentally ran into someone. Yet no damage was found on his truck at all.
His wife was able to find the area where his cell phone last pinged and it's in an area that hasn't been searched. But the problem is the landowners and law enforcement won't approve another search.
This is a strange situation and it is hard to believe that substances were not involved somehow, or he intentionally disappeared.
1. The man just got into a fight with his woman and bailed after midnight (over what?)
2. He "wanted some cooling off time" (why?)
3. A mentally cogent person usually does not simply run out of gas in the middle of nowhere after midnight (alcohol or drugs would help someone overlook the fuel gauge)
4. He was in a field with no damage to his truck, and the 911 call reminds me of when this couple was under the influence and died by pointlessly exiting their vehicle in a snowstorm
Look, this might sound pretty messed up but the guy was unmarried and had 4 kids at age 26. He just got in a fight with his old lady and hauled ass away from her. Maybe he proverbially went out for a pack of cigarettes.

I wonder why. Is there more to the story? Do the authorities have theories and/or think that maybe he took off and doesn't want to be found? Doesn't make much sense with four kids, but nothing about the story makes much sense at all.

Yeah but you gotta have money to disappear like that. And his bank account hasn't been touched. Not saying it isn't possible. But if you gonna vanish to Mexico you gotta have the funds.

I hope they find him, either way.
I'm not sure where law enforcement stands on the case. I think when he first went missing they assumed he left of his own accord. But after they found out he called 911 they may have changed their view.
Very crazy and very strange. There has to be more information. Not saying that any family members are directly involved, but they have to be leaving something out. It may be something that doesn't seem important, but may be a vital clue.
Oh those are probably long gone by now. The fact that the property owner wont let people continue to search is suspect. Also on the call he says something about seeing State Troopers with some people? Hmmmm...Cover up? He also sounds majorly out of breath.
