I have known several that have their builder`s liscense and own buildings. Most are commercial properties, one owns a private company, and the remaining are just in it for the hobby.
This is a VERY EXPENSIVE hobby, be prepared for the following:
1. Initial tuition costs to become a builder - It's doable, but will be time consuming.
2. The cost of the building - You get the floors you pay for
3. Insurance on the building - I have no fucking clue what to recommend here.
4. Maintenance costs are expensive when people piss on the floor of the restrooms, or when the outside glass gets dirty.
5. Where the fuck is everyone going to park? Think about a garage.
6. Shit breaks, and that will start costing money
7. Be prepared for zoning and regulation issues.
Your first place to visit should be Donald Trump's website, that way you can meet up with some local people who are good at ripping other's off. If you are really good with renovations, this group can even show you how to build your own skyscraper.
I'd check with sgt beavis, matts5.0, or fatherford.

I want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.
Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.
When they touch down, we'll blow the roof, they'll spend a month sifting through rubble, and by the time they figure out what went wrong, we'll be sitting on a beach, earning twenty percent.
