  • Tarrant County property tax appraisal?

Anyone else get a huge ass bump recently? TAD bumped my value 10k last year, and then 10 months later I get a notice they bumped it 25k MORE than that? 35k increase in value in 22 months?

Mine wasn't that bad, but close. I sent in my protest so we'll see what happens.

How did you protest? Just curious what you sent in.

I would double check the capped amount they can increase your homestead to make sure they're not doing anything funny. Also, you can always protest your tax value. I used to do that with my rental properties and could usually get 10-15k knocked off a property. June 2nd is the deadline.

They can adjust your market value all they want. The key is they cant increase your actual tax more than 10% a year.

For Denton county I just go to the office and get them to lower it. The first year I went in with printed comparables and they didn't do me any good, but they still lowered it. Ever since then I have just gone in and been really nice and asked them to lower it. Least amount they have dropped it by was 20k.

I had an appraisal done in March as part of my refi and it was 12k under what the city claims, so I sent a copy. You may have to go to a hearing on the matter, but I'm far from an expert on the subject.

I will protest but may be hard when houses in my neighborhood have been selling in a week

CJ, you can mail in your protest, or do it on their site maybe too I believe. When we bought our house in NFW/Keller, we got it for way less than value, so when we got our tax appraisal it was about $40k more than what we paid. I just sent them a copy of what we got the house for and a request to set a date for a review. They sent me back a letter saying it was approved and would be lowered, no need to come in person.

I have protested in the past myself by taking pictures and what I believed was proof etc... got it decreased a bit.

Last year I just hired these people and sent them a few things. It's not free but I don't really have time to mess with it.

Mine went up 9% last year. Hopefully the rent house next door now will help lower that a little.
