This. All my sammy stuff over the years, just doesn't die.

Plus I've sort of got a bone to pick with all those places. Most of the ones I've gone into, they really seemed kind of dickish. And imho, its really better to just buy new unless you are going to fix it yourself. The repair costs are high, and it never fails the appliance just dies of something else next year. Now after that next repair, you're 3/4 of the way to just buying a new one. Not worth it. This is why I've just taken up a "buy new" policy when they fail. They're usually old and ugly by that time anyway, and since it something in your house, its nice if it looks good.

He said for my issue, the first echelon response according to his computer was to replace the main board. $350 parts. Then that might no fix it. He was honest and said, it wasn't worth ending uo spending upwards of $500 to fix it.
On the other hand, he said if he has an issue on the American brands, he can call a tech line and get lots of assistance and parts are easy.
He made no money telling me to go buy a new one..

That said, the wife picked out a Whirlpool that has a Harmon Kardon stereo with blue tooth .. WTF is this world coming to ? $2400 at Lowes, delivered and installed.
So, If anyone wants a FREE Samsung and wants to eff with it, I'll have the deliver boys leave it in the garage and you come get it.

When my GE fridge wasn't working a few months ago one of items that was recommended to replace was the motherboard. It cost $125 on Amazon and literally took 5 minutes to replace. It didn't fix my issue but it did rule that out. Mine actually needed a $27 relay for the compressor.

It did take a 2-3 hours of my time to read through the appliance forums & youtube to troubleshoot & watch installation video's

Eff spending $2400 on a new fridge vs. a few dollars to fix the one that I already have. My fridge is less than 8 years old, cost $1,800 when new, and was otherwise in excellent condition.

            <---------not a DFW baller.

You reminded me. So despite my previous post, yes that is one Samsung thing that has died on me. I just never use or really need ice so I completely forgot about it. I think the fridge is a 2010 model. The icemaker worked for about 30 minutes, and never worked again. I keep the fridge cold enough that all my drinks just don't need ice, and I really don't miss it since I never had one before I had the fridge anyway.

It will stop working eventually if not fxed. It's a single compressor system, so you cant just shut the freezer off
Some brands use a thermo-resister to give temp signal to the motherboard. These are inexpensive to replace.

You're appliance repairman is right, it isn't worth his time to tinker with piddly stuff to fix your fridge. Only you can determine if it is worth some of yours. It sounds like your wife wants that new fridge with a built in stereo so you are probably past this point already.

For future reference this guy can not be beat for all appliance repair. He gives free advice and can tell you what failed by you just giving him the appliance model number. His parts prices are as cheap as it gets.

"Listen" to my wife...Ha, I could care less. It's her purchase. She doesn't complain when I buy something for the shop and I could care less what she buys for the house. Besides, she makes way more money than I do. She can spend her money on whatever. She even let's me ride HER Harley if I want...
