    very nice!

I had a MJ rookie back when I was younger. I honestly don't know if I still have it or not. That was back when me and all my friends swapped/traded cards constantly. I haven't gone through my cards in 10 years. I really need to go through and see what I have. I have an Aikman rookie somewhere too, but I don't even know if it's worth anything. I'm so far out of touch with the market it's not even funny.

Unless the Aikman is a 1989 Score and you know it's going to be the caliber of a BGS 10.0 Pristine, it's not worth your time to get graded if you're looking to sell it for a profit. BGS 9.5's can be had for under $50 and it will cost you around $12 or $13 to get it graded depending upon how quickly you want it back. Best to sell raw to someone on Craigslist which I doubt you'll get anything close to what you want or expect to get.

For a QB that's in the HOF and has 3 Super-Bowl rings, his RC's really don't fetch prices like Montana, Elway, or Marino.

That's because he only has Topps, Score and Pro Set Rookie Cards, IRC.

That score set of 89 is the only set of value of any sport at that time, and Upper Deck baseball from 89.

I haven't looked at the cards I have in probably 15+ years... Wonder what in there...

I had about $750 invested in both cards and should be able to clear around $2k with both sold.

            Cha-ching!
            Definitely good stuff there.

About a year ago I checked Craigslist and someone listed some MJ cards for sell that same day. I saw the scans, called the guy and met up with him to buy the lot which consisted of these:
MJ Rookie ( it was ungraded and I wasn't positive if it was legit or not )
            MJ upper deck jersey card
            MJ 2nd yr Fleer card
            MJ Trilogy Auto Card

            $700 for everything!

I sent 3 of them in to beckett for grading:
            MJ Rc BGS 8.5
MJ ud Jsy card BGS 9
MJ 2nd yr Fleer Was actually altered so not graded by them

            Sold them all:
            RC $1000
            UD jsy $150
            MJ 2nd yr $40
            MJ auto $550

Yep, anything from 1989 other than those two sets is complete garbage.

The 1989 Score Football gets you the rookie cards of Barry Sanders, Troy Aikman, Deion Sanders, Derrick Thomas, Thurman Thomas, Cris Carter, Michael Irvin, and Tim Brown. The factory set can be had for around $50-60 on eBay pretty easily.

The 1989 Upper Deck Baseball gets you the Ken Griffey Jr. rookie, but other than that single card, the set is completely worthless. Unless that card is of BGS 9.5 or BGS 10.0 caliber, you're not really going to get anything out of it if you're looking to turn a profit.

Just absolutely no star power in baseball during this time outside of Griffey and the football cards were just incredibly over-produced, especially the Pro-Set cards which were produced here in Dallas.

Nice flip my man. That's the way to do it. You could probably get $1,400 out of that BGS 8.5 Fleer MJ RC right now.

I've got the Griffey card but not graded. I would like to but I am pretty sure its not centered.

The 1991 UD set had a deep rookie group. Chipper jones, Biggio, etc.

Yeah, if the Griffey isn't centered, especially on the front, just get a good single-screw or magnetic plastic holder and keep it in there for your kids or someone else you want to pass it on to.

BGS 9.5's go around $150 to $400 depending on the sub-grades. BGS 10's (Only 84 of the 32,038 that have been graded by BGS as a 10) go for obscene amounts of money. The last one sold for $2,100 on eBay.

1991 Upper Deck Baseball is pretty soft as well unless you get one of the autograph cards from Hank Aaron or Nolan Ryan. A BGS 10 Pristine Chipper Jones only went for $76. Just still overproduced despite Upper Deck making a significantly better product that their competitors and it's price point also having been much higher during that time period as well. You had to have some money to afford Upper Deck as a kid back then.

Yea, it sucks seeing the numbers on how much everything was over produced.

I remember when the premium sets started coming out, Topps Finest, Upper Deck SP, Flair, Bowman Chrome, etc. I was too poor for those sets.

Yep, you had to be a rich kid to afford those. I was in the same boat as you so don't feel bad.

I was just into it in general for having them. I wasn't looking to build sets or collect certain players. I just bought to buy them, look at them, and have them.

Yea I pretty much started it trying to get cowboys, mavs and rangers cards. Then I figured out the rookies were the most wanted, so I started looking for rookies and it snowballed to looking for inserts and so on.

I don't think any adult, really wants to add up how much money they spent on cards and comics in their life time.

LOL. Yeah, it would get pretty sobering really quickly.

The people who produced/sold cards during the late 80's and early 90's made an absolute killing.

The card shop I used to go to in Mesquite is still there. I am sure they are making money today with all the prices I remember seeing.

If they are making money, it's not a whole lot and definitely not anywhere close to what they were making 15-20 years ago.

With the Internet coming of age and eBay and other online wholesaler/retailers, it put everything a collector needed within a click of a button and delivered right to their door-step. There was no need to go to the card shop anymore and pay the high margins they charged because they were the only way you could get cards then.

I've been to Nick's Card Shop over in Richardson a few times for supplies and his prices on boxes is absolutely obscene in comparison to online retailers. That place is basically somewhere a Dad can take his kids to and buy them a few packs of cards and they get to spend some time together. That is not a place that someone who wants to make money goes or really even a collector would go unless they simply don't want to buy online and want to physically look at the condition of a raw card they want to buy for a set completion or upgrade.
