If the inspection sticker on your car right now is expired or expires before your registration is due, then take it off. A car without an inspection sticker on it is less likely to draw attention from a cop than a car with an expired sticker. You will need to get it inspected before you can get your next new registration sticker.

If the registration sticker on your car expires before the inspection sticker, they are going to go ahead and give you a new registration sticker this year, because you will have a valid inspection at the time you get it registered. Congrats, because you'll be able to go more than a year on the last inspection you got.

The first time you get your car registered after Feb 2016, everything will be synced up moving forward.

My registration went out last month, but my inspection is good until August 2015. I just renewed my registration the other day. When that stick comes in I can scrape off my inspection sticker and just go with the new registration? I'm still confused.

That's why you peel off the expired inspection sticker. You dont get in reinspected until your registration is due.

My inspection is due in May, but registration is good until January '16. I'll be peeling the state inpection sticker off June 1st.

Yes. The bottom line is that you only need the registration sticker now.

Sure, you can peel the expired inspection sticker, but that won't necessarily keep you from getting a ticket. I'm just sharing what the law states, in that there's no grace period to get them synced up.

I've floated an expired inspection for months at a time before, so I'm not telling anyone what they should do, just making sure nobody assumes that they are in the clear. The chances of getting popped are even slimmer with the single sticker, but it's still a remote possibility.

              Okay, now I'm confused.

My inspection sticker expired March. I went to get it inspected. The guy said nope, it doesn't get another inspection until October, when my registration expires.

              I thought I was golden.

But now I see they've written the law to say you still have to get an inspection performed if your inspection expires before your registration does, but you don't get a sticker?

I can get back in compliance by removing my inspection sticker?

It's the same thing the title office told me in Red Oak.

I only removed mine so it wouldn't be obvious that it was out of date. It appears that the intent of the law is that you still need to have a valid inspection at all times, just that there is no longer any windshield sticker associated with it.

I believe the inspection must be within 3 months of you getting new registration.

During the transition (March 1, 2015, to Feb 29, 2016), you just have to have an unexpired inspection at the time of registration. After Feb 29, 2016, it has to be inspected within 90 days of registration renewal.

My tags and inspection both expired 3/15 and I couldn't buy tags online until I had the car inspected. I might have been able to buy at a tax office but I wasn't going to wait in that line to save $15.

Danny, remove your inspection sticker. Cops aren't looking for two anymore. Since new inspection stickers aren't being issued, the cops have no idea if you did or did not get your inspection done last month or last week or yesterday, unless they run your shit. They won't pull you over for it.

I picked up my new registration sticker early last month, right after this all became new law. My inspection doesn't expire for another 2 months, so I effectively have a 10 month gap.

The registration office told me to scrape off the inspection sticker when it expires and I don't have to get a new inspection until my new registration is required to renew.

I heard most PD's aren't writing tickets for this until the systems catch up/sync up; but it can be used as a probable cause stop.

On my SS, I just scraped the sticker off and I only have my registration on it. I'll keep the receipt in my car if I ever get pulled over.

edit: My inspection went out in feb, when I got it done in march they didnt' give me a sticker and told me they weren't allowed to take off the old sticker.

same here. my inspection expired in january. i took the opportunity to peel off the inspection sticker (as well as registration sticker and tolltag) and clean it all up to do clear windshield tint.

just got a new registration sticker today.
