They did have an educated guess. Still a gamble and he pissed it away. Sad.

Yes, it is very sad the heart was wasted, and someone more responsible could have lived.

It's not sad that he's dead.

There are 4 basic questions that are asked:

                1. Have all other therapies been tried or excluded?
                2. Are you likely to die without the transplant?
                3. Are you in generally good health other than the heart or heart and lung disease?
                4. Can you adhere to the lifestyle changes, including complex drug treatments and frequent exams, required after a transplant?

                Even his own mother said:

"They said they don’t have any evidence that he would take his medicine or that he would go to his follow-ups,"

So now you have a person who is statistically unlikely to follow medical advice which would better the chances of success, and you would let another person - likely MORE than willing to follow any and every doctor's order to the letter - die because of political pressure?

You're absolutely right. The hospital DID have an 'educated guess' and it would have been a correct one, but shitheads who know nothing about medicine or the person in question brought shitty emotion and shitty politics into it, and now a heart was wasted.

I have a little experience with organ transplant being I work in an ICU that does transplants. I have only seen 2 ungrateful people who have received organs and they have pissed away the transplants. One got a kidney and didnt follow up taking his medications when he got home. The other got a liver and refused the immunospuression meds two days after the transplant. Both of these were young adults 18-21. From my first hand experience, I feel like you can tell who is going to do good and who will do bad. The lazy, uncooperative ones before transplant are lazy and uncooperative after transplant. Most of the people who are truly thankful for the opportunity for a new organ take their medications religiously, did all their workup without complaining and did their physical therapy while waiting.

Isn't there some correlation to receiving an organ transplant to being able to pay for the organ transplant?
Magnus, I am your father. You need to ask your mother about a man named Calvin Klein.

I just ran the regression; correlation = .172

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

I remember this when it was happening, and best I recall I hadn't heard anything about the hospital's findings of him being a shithead, only that they weren't going to put him on the top of the donor list.

                            That doesn't answer my question.

How did some jackass receive a surgery that cost more than the entire net worth of his extended family?
