Unless you're a drunk, rageaholic, completely irresponsible, or drug addict, the child spending equal time with you and his mother is absolutely in his best interest. I don't see you as being any of those things. I'd even say at his current age it's in his best interest to spend more time with his father than with his mother.


You don't have to mess with unconditional love, and I'm not telling you to. What you do to her in court doesn't need to be a subject between you and him. I see what you're getting at, I just completely disagree with it. There is zero room for compassion or a soft heart in these matters. As you've learned first hand, she will bend you over and fuck you in the ass at every hint of an opportunity. You're selling yourself short by not responding with the same.

Family lawyers are far different than other lawyers, so don't let that general opinion cloud your judgement. You asked for help, I'm just offering up what I would do if I were in your shoes. Of course, I wouldn't have "settled" with her either. Just look where all that goodwill and cash got you. I'm not saying you should skate the financial responsibility either, but judging solely on what's been posted here, you do more than your fair share. I just know what my move would be.

I have a buddy going through about the same thing but in reverse. He has custody and the worthless old hag is trying to get him back. He's dropped $200k easily on attorney's fees and misc shit, but theyve dragged it on long enough he's going to reach 18 before its long resolved.

Most support orders in TX end when the child graduates high school or when they turn 18, whichever comes first.

I could imagine them continuing in cases where spousal support applies, but those are a very small percentage and involve huge salaries.
