Had, had as in do not have them any more. Payed off everything and padded the savings when I could see the writing on the wall. started looking for a new gig, found one, pay is not near as good, but I'll take being home with my family over money any day. That and the wife is done with school and working so that's a plus, puts us as a unit pretty close to where I was before.

I have a V1 that I rarely use and haven't used since last summer.

Because around here, everybody is running X band in order to hide amongst all the blind spot and adaptive cruise prox stuff found even on pretty basic modern cars these days.

I'll take it on long trips, but it stays in the console 99% of the time now

I love the crap out of my Escort SR7/ZR3 combo. If you can find that used in your price range, jump on it. The new stuff is tits, but really pricey.

You're still vulnerable to instant on radar, but I don't know of a solution to that.

New 2015 Passport for $349 has a great display and Escort Live phone app for popo locations built in.
The MAX2 also has GPS. GPS learns the fixed radar falses (grocery store automatic doors for example) and after seeing them 3 times, puts them in a database and mutes the signal so you don't get that exact frequency at that gps location as a false anymore. Also, it can mute signals when you're going less than 20 mph so it is not a beating at stoplights. I still haven't given up my V1 but I think a Max2 would be a good replacement. With cities strapped for cash, using the popo primarily as a revenue generator, and tickets being $250+, a good detector is cheap insurance IMO.
